Has anyone been watching those shows? In my opinion, some of the best on TV. Taking the client out of the mix and hunting with just PHs is interesting. There was another new episode tonight. Ernst Scholz and Doug McNeil (both PHs with TGTS) after buffalo. Ernst made a slightly off shot on a buffalo (the advantage of having it on Tivo, you can see the shot in super slow motion). So far the show episodes have been: 1. Doug McNeil and Andy Payne (both PHs with TGTS) - buffalo in TNZ. 2. Doug and Andy - buffalo in TNZ. 3. Doug - elephant in ZIM. 4. Doug and Peter Chipman - croc in ZAM. 5. Doug and Peter Chipman - hippo in ZAM. 6. Doug and Ernst - buffalo in TNZ. Two new shows coming up; ZIM Ele Part 2 and ZIM leopard. Also on OLN, three Benelli hunts in Namibia with Lee Horsely and have been well made. Finally, some decent African hunting on the TV. Regards, Terry P.S. Don't care much for Jim Shockey's shows. Terry, I am really begining to love that show. I am awaiting it's next broadcast tonite 11pm so that I can tape it. Got a kick out of watching Ernst shoot his 460 Weatherby into the water jug. I noticed that Ernst was also involved with the Benelli episode hunting for Gemsbuck in Namibia. Regards, Dave

Terry, I have only seen three of the shows, but I agree that they do a good job. The croc one was the last that I saw and I was ready to be bored. I was wrong. It turned into a really exciting show. The bad part is that my wife also likes to watch the show. She really likes Doug McNeal. Doug

Mike, That shot was way far back. The buff was quartering and he should have hit him just in front of the point of the shoulder. Instead he hit him in the ribs. I was surprised that shot slowed down the buffalo. I wonder what elapsed between the first shot and the next shot shown on camera? Guys: I miised the show last night. Any idea if/when it'll be on again? I also like some of the african shows on the Beretta show. Gerald McRainey just has the best narration going. And of course there's Cindi Garrison........jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

I watched last night's episode also and will agree it is one of the best of the Hook and Bullet programs on television. The narration is good, camera work fair and the danger aspect is not overdone ala Capstick. My favorite was the elephant episode. Just like the shot on the buff, even professionals make shots they would like to call back. Having the backbone to show the good, the bad and the ugly always wins points in my book. I hate the program where everything is obviously staged and you can tell the animal has been shot before and all they air is the kill shot whith backslapping and high fives afterward. Too much of that "good ol boy" out there now, IMO. I agree also that OLN is beginning to air the premium shows on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Good stuff and we should let THEM know we appreciate it! I agree, it is nice to see them show the hunt realistically. Everyone makes a bad shot now and then. On the Benelli hunt, they even showed a guy shoot at a kudu and his gun just went "click". He forgot to chamber a round. I liked the fact that they didn't edit that out of the show. On that buffalo shot, I have the advantage of watching it several times in slow motion. Something the hunter doesn't get to do. Regards, Terry Msasi haogopi mwiba [A hunter is not afraid of thorns]

I have been looking for a repeat of #3 Doug-elephant in Zim. I saw the last 15 minutes of it a few weeks ago. At the end was a dedication to Carl Bradfield (he was killed by an elephant this year) I hunted with Carl in 2004. Did any one make a tape of it? if so would it be possible to acquirer a copy of it. Thanks

I think the ele hunt is still on my Tivo. It was one of my favorites so far as the charge was awesome and so unexpected by the hunters and their crew. I agree--overall the show is one of the best I've seen. But how did Douglas McNeil get on so many shows lately?

I've enjoyed watching all the episodes of the Dangerous Game series and have them saved on TIVO and soon on DVD. I think they are well made and have enjoyed them very much. My wife watched the latest Buff hunt with me and she liked the show and she usually has no interest. JD

I know Ernst Scholz well, having hunted with him three times and he used to stay at my house when he first started coming to the USA doing the SCI Banquet circuit. If that was a Harris Talon in .460 Weatherby, that was a rifle that I delivered to him in '98. He handles it quite well. I shot a couple critters with it and found it brutal as it's a bit light. He uses 500 Barnes X bullets. Shoots everything with it as it's often the only rifle he takes to TZ. I'm surprised if he bad hit something as he's probably the best game shot I've ever been around. The PH in the Namibia episode for springbok with the Beretta semi-autos was Hartmut Freyer of Gauss Hunting. He and Ernst are pals since their early school years. The credits did list Ernst as the P.H. but probably because he organized it with Hartmut.

I had the good fortune of having been able to hunt with Hartmut Fryer twice. He really knows his trade. A very good natured person who always got us on to great game in Namibia. I had E-mailed him and he said he was not on his property when these episodes were filmed. That is probably one of the reasons that he did not show up in the credits. The one thing that I did not ask him about how did they get semi autos into the country. I thought that this was impossible.

Just saw it this morning. Agreed the shot was too far back, but the THS (spine shot) was great!. Anybody have any idea as to the rifle he used? IT looked like a SS Model 70 but in 460 Weatherby. Dangerous Game is the best show we have on T.V. even with its shortcomings. Yes, that shot on the buff was too far back. Kind of surprised all of us considering who was shooting. I especially enjoyed the shot on the container!

Matt, Thanks for the details regarding Ernst rifle. He must be some kind of shot not to mention recoil tolerant to use a .460 Weatherby for everything! I was wondering about the components used... It looks like a Dakota 76 African stainless barreld action to me(?). The synthetic stock had a pretty good drop to is so I am guessing it holds 4 down. Serious working rifle that. It was nice to hear him discuss how important it is that a rifle fit it's owner properly...so that is can be brought to use instantly without thought or adjustment. Regards, Dave
