Although I’ve been a life member of SCI for nearly two decades, my wife and I have not attended the annual convention in many years. It was just too much hassle getting to and from Reno.

That will change next year. We’ll be in Las Vegas for the entire four days of the 50th Anniversary convention - January 19-22. We’re looking forward to seeing old friends, as well as Don Trump, Jr., Larry the Cable Guy and Tucker Carlson.

I’ll get a stock fitting for my about-to-be-ordered Heym Grade 3 89B, and I’ll also be looking to book another buffalo hunt in a place where I can use it.

We’ve decided. Enough of this COVID nonsense!

How many others on AR are planning to attend?

Not sure if I will go.

Depends on who I know is going and how bad things are at the hospital, I guess.

The travel situation isn’t my concern, but time is.

I plan to go. It is the same week as the SHOT Show so I'm going to try and do both. It would be my first time going.

Michael,
CONGRATULATIONS on that new Heym. Let's plan to toast that with a great Single Malt or your favorite tipple!! ...or maybe a Jagermeister or Schnapps might be more appropriate??!!

I will be there all four days, and more for the Beinfeld International Antique and Collectors Gun Show that over laps Friday and Saturday plus more on Sunday.

Look forward to seeing many of you!! I will have my AR 470 EDDY name tag on my Jack O'Connor Heritage Center bush jacket!!

I'm looking forward to it, 470EDDY! It will be fun to meet old and new friends from this great website. I only hope we get a decent turnout of outfitters.

We live in crazy times. But we are at last truly beginning to break free of this awful plague, thank God.

Terrible turnout put our company on the long list of outfitters who did not believe the investment would cover the return. Plus, you can go to DSC and be treated better, see a far larger crowd, and support the organization that 'puts it's money where its mission is." Done.

I had always wanted to see the spectacle of SCI as compared to DSC, but that may have been back in the early Market Hall days. Now, I don’t see the point with me living a few miles from DSC. I am curious how the two shows compare currently. Is there much of a difference? The guys I work with have never done SCI, as DSC and other Texas events, combined with repeat business, fill up our Argentina calendar pretty well.

I enjoy playing cards, but I’m not good. Therefore, it does seem like it would be a waste.

As I mentioned above, I will be attending.
I have not attended in a very very long time and am completely satisfied with DSC which is only 5 hours away. However, my daughter who loves DSC and will be attending DSC with me is an officer in the the local SCI chapter and has persuaded my wife and I to attend so we will be there.

SCI is bigger without a doubt . DSC seems more relaxed . The crowds are different.

Marcus…the shows are different enough that it is worthwhile to see the SCI show, at least once, plus Las Vegas is a fun place to visit, especially for a country bumpkin like me. For me, and Rebecca, who have spent our time at DSC working, SCI is a venue to visit with our outfitter friends. Plus, airfare and hotels are pretty reasonable. I don’t play cards either but slot machines are a lot of fun Wink
I sincerely hope both shows happen and do very well, been a tough couple of years for outfitters and clubs alike.

Karl,

Thanks for the insight. I do play cards, but not well!

I will look into it and see how long the guys will be in town and what “side events” we may have to do.

Yes, I wish the best for both groups, and we often do HSC. That could be a factor. It reminds me of early DSC, but it does offer a relaxing chance to be there and meet with clients.

As others have said, the Sonora prime time hunting is right around there. I’m still not excited about getting kidnapped, but I still want to give that a go. Just kidding, I do hear hunters are fairly safe….

I look forward to seeing as many fellow AR members as luck will allow.

If you see me, there will be no mistaking me, and I will also be easy to avoid.

I will be the guy wandering around whose name tag reads:

"Michael Robinson - Life Member." Big Grin

It was ingrained into me to take my hat or cap off while indoors. Plus, they make me sweat while warm and indoors! I can’t keep one on my head unless I’m outside. Otherwise, I would definitely wear my AR cap!

Nevada just announced its first Omicron case here in Clark County (Las Vegas) today. According to the news, it is a 20 year old woman who was fully vaccinated, but had not had the booster shot. I'm surprised that they haven't announced finding it before now with all of the California traffic that we get every week, as well as the ongoing conventions. I'm sure that it's been here for quite some time.

I was half planning to go for a few days, but with the folks from Africa on a no fly list, I’m thinking not.

Rightly or wrongly, to me SCI is an Africa show. I’m not into the entertainment (I would rather save my limited vacation days for hunting) and while the North American part is nice, I can typically deal with that by phone.

The spectacle of the taxidermy and guns is great, but I always leave feeling like the poor nephew in the group because I can’t afford all the neat stuff that I see.

So if the outfitters I’m interested in make it, I will try and sign up at that point.

While Dallas might be an easier show, at least Vegas is easier for transport, walking distance accommodations, and you can get reservations at a late date, which is NOT my experience with Dallas, unfortunately (not a dig at DSC, but rather DFW).
