We can probably accomodate you in several countries. It all depends on what type hunt you are looking for and what your budget will allow.

For a frame of reference a 7-10 day 1x1 buff hunts to include one buffalo can be had for $10,000-$12,000. There would be no additional add-ons and these hunts are with some very good operators.

If you'd like further details contact me anytime.

Safaritrackers has had a great year on buff from everything I have heard and the pictures on the site, I think their aveage was 40" including bait animals. Mark can correct me if I am wrong. Also I have heard nothing but great things about John Sharp.

Try Hunter's Quest. Wendell had some excellent offerings. Although I went another direction I was very much impressed with his site and responses.

gi,

My first and so far only safari was this fall, one of the short buffalo hunts mentioned above. I was in the Selous and found it excellent for a first timer. Lots of animals, we saw ~1900 game animals in 7 hunting days, and a comfortable tented camp. A slice of old time Africa, just like in the books. Hyenas at the tent door and if you wander over to the skinner's shed after dark, mind you don't get run over by a hippo.

These short buff hunts seem to me to offer excellent value for the money. One great thing about Tanz is there may be a chance for a second buff. Most short buff hunts specify 1 buff only, but your license will allow 2 and you may be able to negotiate for the second, especially if you are going later in the season. I signed up for 1 buff and found that a 2nd would be available a couple of weeks before I left. I just made sure everyone involved knew I wanted a 2nd one if possible.

FWIW I ended up booking through Mark Young. Before booking, I checked out several other good outfits, some of whom I'm sure have already contacted you by PM. Every one had different day rates and trophy fees, but the final costs were all pretty close.

Enjoy your trip,
Dean

P.S. I doubt this will be your only safari. You'll certainly dream of going back and if you can find a way to go once, you'll likely find a way to go again.

You may make your first hunt next year but, I'll bet you it will not be your last buffalo hunt. I made my fourth "one and only" buff hunt last year and I am planning my fifth "one and only" buff hunt for 2007. You can believe anything you want to now but that will change once you get there. I'll bet you are making plans for the next trip before you get finished with the first one.

My first time African hunt included cape buff and i went to Zimbabwe in the Zambezi Valley. What a great place to hunt Dangerous game!!! I hunted the Omay CAMPFIRE area through Bluembi Safaris, I highly recomend the" Valley" for a wounderful wild old africa Hunt. Very well priced as well. Don't be so sure this will be your one and only hunt over there, if it get in your blood , yu will be thinking of little else but to get back to Africa again!

I have a CZ 375 HH, I will load 270 Barnes with the grooves and probably 75 gr h4350. It will be a one gun hunt. I have a 1.5 x 5 Leupold, i might keep that on or I might put on the 1.5 X 6 Swaroski (excuse the spelling) I would like to take maybe two or three other animals if time allows, I will try a 7 day 1 on 1. What were you carrying?

gi,

I was carrying a borrowed .416 Rigby until my CZ 550 .375 H&H caught up with me. My .375 carries a Leupold VX III 1.5 x 5. Before the hunt, I started to work up some 270 gr TSX handloads for PG hunt next June in Namibia (eland is on the menu). When the buff hunt came up, I went with factory loads because I wasn't sure I'd have time to fully work up 300 gr hand loads. I used Federal 300 gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claws and Hornady solids mostly because that was what I could buy locally. They worked fine. Solids for buff are a little out of favour for buff with some folks, but I was happy to have them, and so was my PH.

Cheers,
Dean

I took a Sako in.375 H & H with a 1-4 leupold and shot the Buff as well as 8 plains game all with the one Rifle. I think the calibre is perfect for the one gun hunter.
