I'm looking to go on my first african safari when I graduate from school as a gift to myself and would love to take my dad who has always wanted to hunt cape buffalo. I'm interested in the hippo portion of the hunt. I would like to shoot the hippo on land if possible. What place in africa would give you the best of both animals for a fair price? I would also like to import the trophies to the usa.

If you looking at that combination then your

only choice will be Tanzania and in the Selous,

There are a bunch of operators that will be

able to do this type of hunt for you,

Enjoy

Tanzania, or perhaps one of the Zambian operators?? Andrew Baldry from Royal Kafue can probably help you.

A bunch of operators can offer you good buffalo and hippo in Zimbabwe, but I don't think many can garuntee a shot opportunity on hippo, on land!

You might inquire Martin Pieters Safaris. Lots of hippos on Lake Kariba. My son shot his on land, when we were there in 2011. We didn't hunt bull cape buff, but took two cows instead, and a tuskless cow ele. Price was reasonable, compared to Tanzania.

Track A Hunt Safaris in the Gache Gache conservancy on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe has good buffalo and lots of hippo along the shores. I shot my hippo out of the water while there.

Was about to say the same. take a quick run around in the boat and you will see plenty of Hippo out of the water. Plenty of Buffalo too.

I did read a hunting report on the Gache Gache conservancy where they harvested a cape buffalo and a hippo and it seemed like a really fun trip. Now what to do with a hippo trophy? Really large shoulder mount?

This is what my son did with his hippo, and a helluva lot cheaper than a shoulder mount.

Theirry Labat or Martin Pieters should be able to help with an affordable safari

If you are very flush then look at Mark Sullivan or Aaron Neilson in Tanzania.

A Hippo skull is one of the coolest euro mounts. Looks prehistoric.

i second that. when i hunted buff with Martin in the Omay North a few years ago, it would have been relatively easy to shoot a hippo on land around Lake Kariba- and the buff are certainly there... to shoot those 2 in TZ would cost you at least 2-3 times as much.

Why is TZ so much more expensive? And I do love the euro hippo skulls.
