Found out just now that PH Mark Ellement has passed away either yesterday or Saturday at his home in Bulawayo, surrounded by friends and family.
Thinking the funeral and service will be next Saturday, but not sure yet. I think they want to give time for the hunting community to gather.
My sympathy to his family and close friends. I had the privilege to know Mark, and will probably attend the service.
IRONIC...Guess he KNEW what was coming with the future of Elephant hunting......got a head start in a better hunting grounds.

I spent a week at Matapula's Zambezi hunting lodge with Mark and his family about 12 years ago and truly enjoyed his company. He really was an elephant expert! My sympathies to his family.

Damn. Just...damn.

You know, some folks generate a lot of noise and bother in this life. They stir up a lot of dust and yet, when everything settles, things often aren't a lot different than when they began. Mark Ellement was, most assuredly, NOT that kind of man.

Ellos appeared to me as a quiet, unassuming kind of guy...the kind that attracts as little attention as possible and all the while making an indelible mark on his world and the people around him. Matupula Hunters, the country of Zimbabwe, and this planet as a whole are better because Mark Ellement left his tracks here...and we are all diminished by his passing.

Vaya con Dios, Mark.

My apologies for any misspellings...my monitor keeps getting blurry for some reason.

Mark and Jane

The Funeral service and Wake for Ellos will be on Saturday. We will come in from the bush to attend. Apparently, most all the PH Elephant hunters will be in attendanced unless they have a client. And they still may be there........
