Morans in hospital after fight with stray leopard By Isaac Ongiri and Vincent Bartoo Two Maasai morans were hospitalised in critical condition after a stray leopard attacked them at Olenkulato in Trans Mara District. The leopard also killed 30 goats and sheep and six dogs before eating 13 chickens. The beast attacked Anthony Leboo, 25, tearing his flesh and injuring him seriously. It also tore the right hand of Robert Munkushi, 27, as he rushed to rescue his colleague, who had sustained head injuries. Frightened villagers ran for their lives as the leopard intensified the fight against the two morans. The leopard overpowered the morans forcing them to feign death, making it walk away. Doctors at the Trans Mara Medicare, where the two are admitted, said they had performed an operation on them. Dr Joseph Kiptum who is in charge of their treatment, expressed hope that they would survive. Trans Mara District Game Warden, Ms Jane Gitau, told journalists game rangers shot the animal moments after the incident. She said her office was helping the victims to process forms for compensation. "...Them, they were Giants!" J.A. Maasai warrior. Historical to gain moran status, they had to kill a lion with spears. Then thay could be able to wed, etc... at least that is how I understand it.
