This is bound to cause a shit storm, but what the hell!! Which country has the best and most skilled PH's?

I think that would be tough to answer... Zim seems to have the best offical training process - by far. RSA has a real simple process. That means there are lots of 'PH's' about but many don't go far as the industry demands that only good ones do well. I reckons each of the main safari countries will have exellent and bad PH's. I think regardless of the officail trianing it comes down to the individual and their mentors and in-house training. For example, there are far more PH's in Zim or TZ than in Ethiopia, that means Zim will have many that are considered good, probably more than all the PH's in Ethiopia put together and as a result they will recieve more press/airtime, but that doesn;t discount the ability of good Ethiopian PH's....for example.

AS Kayaker says, tough to answer, but if I had to choose, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

One thing I know is that there are lots of good Zim PH's trying very hard to get to Tanzania. Many of the better ones in TZ are originally from their forlorn neighbor to the south.

I've been very lucky, as I've never had a bad PH, in all the years I've hunted Africa. have only heard rumors of two or three in twenty years. I'd say there are good and bad in every place where hunting is allowed, but I'd also say there are a lot more good than bad! Today, I'd say the largest number of really good ones are in TZ, Zambia, Botswana and ZIM! That however, doesn't mean the ones in other countries are automaticlly bad, just fewer of them. ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

In general, Zimbabwe. Some of the worst, in South Africa. This is probably due to the fact that Zimbabwe has what might be the toughest requirement for being a PH. And South Africa has, by comparison, some of the easiest. Now before someone starts jumping up and down screaming, it all depends on the individuals involved. We have all read stories of a number of obnoxious so called PH from different countries. I have hunted with GREAT PHs from both Zimbabwe and South Africa. So go figure!

I've had good PHs in Zim, South Africa and Namibia. No problems in any of their hunting skills. Best training regime by far is Zimbabwes.

Zim and Tanzania. It is worth noting that there are a lot of Zimbabwe trained ph's in Tanzania though.

Of the four PH's in three countries I've hunted with and others I've observed I'd have to say Zimbabwe.
