Wildcat Attacks Boy 3 December 2009 Harare — An eight-year-old boy from the Mopani, some 40km west of Beitbridge Town, was last Friday severely injured after he was attacked by a wildcat on his way to school. The incident occurred at around 7am as the juvenile walked to Mtetengwe Primary School in Ward 6. The wildcat leapt from bushes along the path he was walking on and attacked him. It jumped to his shoulders and scratched his face. A nine-year-old schoolmate who was in the vicinity ran to the rescue and struck the cat with a big stick. The boys then stoned the animal to death and reported the incident to school authorities. The victim was rushed to Tongwe Clinic where his condition was reported to be stable. School head Mr Alfonse Ndlovu confirmed the incident yesterday and said they had taken the cat to a veterinarian to check if it was infected with rabies. "This is an unfortunate incident. We have since sent the pupil to Tongwe Clinic where he is admitted and he is a stable condition. "We hope that the wildcat was not rabid but the manner in which it behaved indicates it may have been sick," he said. And if the US is like here, the Greenies and Animal libbers would have been up in arms over the fact that the wildcat was killed.

Your totally correct, the boys would be brought up on charges of animal cruelty. That little boy should have known better, trying to walk to school at 7am...what a little prat!

Knowing how often reporters who know nothing about wildlife screw things up, I wonder if the cat was an African wildcat or a caracal (lynx). Bill Quimby

lynx are hunters and they can a kill an animal of the seize of roe deer 25-35 kilo= 70 pounds , well why not a lynx try a little boy which can barely be the seize of a deer and have strenght of a deer.in eyes of animal -lovers human's life has less value than beasts. regards yes Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

BS. Nothing personal, I am just tired of all the U.S. bashing. I hear more then I want by our President, don't need it here. Most of the kids I know are tough as nails in there environment. Jim "Bwana Umfundi" NRA

Oryxhunter1983: No, here, we will pass a law forbidding any wildcats to be on public roads where children may be. (I'm still bitter over the recent news that Colorado State University has passed a law prohibiting hand guns on the college campus. Gee! Why didn't Virginia Tech have such a law before 37 people were killed on campus by a hand gun shooter? Boy! I bet that would have stopped him!
