Anyone ever use this product ? Supposed to keep bugs away by not letting them bite you. Fabric is not impregnated with bug dope . Fabric is supposed to be tight which prevents them from getting to the skin .

If it's that tight-weaved, it's likely to be really hot. I tried hunting in a heavy Carhart shirt a couple of years back. It worked on the tsetses, but was just too darn hot.

I'm doing an experiment this year and I'll let you know how it works. Hunting in a tsetse area -- they are brutal there -- been there several times before.

So I'm layering heatgear bottom layer with my usual hunting clothes. My thought is the two layers, moving and working against each other, will deter bites. Don't know if it will work, but makes some sense and shouldn't be too hot.

This is just an experiment. I'll let you know.

No cloth will keep tse tse flies off you for long.

Tried everything.

Best so far is my own concoction of mixing DEET and 50 SPF sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

Make sure the DEET is 50% of the mix.

Works better than anything commercially available, that we have tried.

I've always found Avon Skin so Soft works. I use it in Africa and in Scotland for Midges.

If you are collecting and hanging cat baits you will be doing alot of driving. Ele dung slowly smoldering and smoking in a coffee can helps keep the flies out of the car.

It does work.

But we found my concoction seems to keep them away better.

Avon stinks and gives me a headache. Burning ele dung works -- we always do that. I'll try Saeed's concoction, but still think the combination of heat gear and usual clothes might help.

The new advanced tse tse bite through jeans!

It helps if you have Ray Atkinson next to you.

He is a magnet to them!

Almost worth taking him along just for that!

Only problem with him is he tends to follow the wrong buffalo!

Twice we managed to get ahead of them, and shoot the one he was chasing! rotflmo

I could care less, but my wife has decided to go on her second trip this year. Last time was Masailand so not only no tsetses, but in July, no mozzies either. This trip will be different for her. She's also afraid of small planes, but wants to go anyway. I'm proud of her. But want to make it as comfortable as possible.

I’ve had good luck soaking my clothes in 0.5% permethrin before going.

Marty,

That helps with tsetses at least for the first few washings, but with diminished results as the safari continues. I've yet to find powdered permethrin that could be used to retreat clothing mid-safari. And it doesn't totally repel tsetses.
