Finally got my hands on the raw footage from our 2018 safari in the SVC. Huge thanks to Buzz for tracking it down and making sure it found its way to my house. I had lost confidence in ever getting my hands on it. Eventually I'll find someone to edit it and piece it together. Below are links to the raw footage of my oldest son with his ele and buff.

The auto settings on playback are low resolution. Video is much clearer if you select 1080 (HD).

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

Good stuff and the gun carry was impeccable. Fine shooting all round.

Very nicely done. Good on the tracker for showing initiative to help with the rifle crawling forward toward the buff.

Three nice doubles there. What were they, calibers and makers?

Regards, Tim

Rich was carrying a Merkel in .500 NE. I carry a LH Heym in .470 NE. Zak was carrying a Heym in .450/400 NE. It had been so thick we left the scoped rifle in the truck, but then we found a herd of buffalo in an open spot. The red dot certainly helps in that situation.

Wonderful footage Jerry - chuffed you found it.
You are to be complemented for getting your sons trained 'right'. I'm sure you're super proud of them and you deserve to be! They would make all AR dads proud!
I'm now a TX resident and see Cape Buff every day! It would be great to reconnect.

Jerry- Zack did so well. He is a huge credit to you. Awesome hunt even if it was with Buchanan hunts Wink . It is such a pity our industry is losing people like Rich Tabor and Justin Drainer to go farming as it is simply no longer lucrative enough bee either a Ph or an operator. Hope yo well Jerry!

Thanks Kevin - glad you're in TX! We'll certainly hook up again. The boys both handle being in these situations better than I do - I haven't hunted Africa on my own since 2012 - they're better shots and I enjoy watching them do it more than doing it myself.

You're 100% right Buzz. Both Rich and Justin were right at the top, as were Norest and Teddy. Whatever you were after, you were going to be in front of it and it was all going to be captured on film ....

Jerry

On a brighter note - Norrest is with Myles now and Teddius with a mate of ours in Nyakasanga- so at least their wonderful talents are not going to waste!! Keep well! Cheers Buzz
