butchloczim exchange rate history
jumbo moore just sent me this
Before we lose our memory of the facts of how the Zimbabwe Dollar has faired against the USD since Independance.......... here are the facts in the attachment.
1. At Independance 1 US$ would have bought you 70 Zimbabwe cents
2. At the start of the Land Reform Program in year 2000, 1 US$ would have bought you 41 Zim dollars
3. January of this year, 1 USD would have bought you 5,500,000,000 Zim dollars
4. Today I was offered 1 Billion Zimbabwe Dollars for 1 US$............. remember we have removed 3 zeros off our currency so realistically it is 1 Trillion Zimbabwe Dollars for 1 US$. Can you all comprehend the zeros???? Z$ 1,000,000,000,000 : 1 US$
5. Who has a calculator big enough to handle the zeros and to work out this devaluation percentage?

If a lot of things don't change in this country, it appears to me that we are headed in that direction.
Thanks
Jeff

Andrew McLarenQuestion to international travelers & people in the know:
If an American has $ 1 000 000 he is called a millionair.
If an European has Euro 1 000 000 he is called a millionair.
A Zimbabwean with ZIM$ 1 000 000 must also be a millionair.
My question is now, is there any country with more millionair per capita than Zimbabwe? Or put differently: Is there any other currency that has an even lower international value than the ZIM$ ?
In good hunting.

If I figured correctly, this works out to about a 143 trillion percent rate of inflation. This amount is probably a historic high, worse than the famous German inflation of the 1920s.
So Zimbabwe's currency is practically worthless. Very sad.

prof242No, not worthless. I'd be willing to pay for some bills to be a Zimbabwe Billionaire. Any takers?

someoldguyWell, if you're in Zim, you could do something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Zimbabwe-Banknote-MILLIONS-1-10-25-...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemSell Zimbabwe currency at several times the exchange rate to collectors in exchange for Euros, pounds, or US dollars.

L. David KeithI'm bringing enough back to become a Gazillion/Ba-billionaire. The airlines told me I'd have to pay $50 extra for the crate. Always trying to nickel and dime me....
