Jeffrey Lendrum of African Hunting Gazette convicted wildlife smuggler
Jeffrey Lendrum, who is running the African Hunting Gazette magazine "Visited & Verified" program for hunting outfitters, and the brother of Richard Lendrum of Future Publishing (Pty) Ltd, owner of the African Hunting Gazette magazine and the struggling African Hunting EXPO has been repeatedly convicted of smuggling endangered wildlife and sentenced to 30 months in prison for his most recent offense.

He was first convicted in Zimbabwe in 1984, then again in Canada in 2002 and most recently in the UK in 2010. Jeff Lendrum was called "the highest level of wildlife criminal" by the investigating officer from the National Wildlife Crime Unit in the UK.

I saw that there is a big discussion on another forum where Jeff is trying to explain himself in a very fage manner. And apparently it has blown over to facebook as well.

If verified, that is very discouraging news. We fight the outside people so hard, it is a killer to be hit from what should be an inside guy. Again, if true, real fodder against us hunters.

Let's not lynch Richard or the magazine at this point. One can not choose one's family.

Reminds me of an old guide here in Texas who was about as crooked as they come. He was trying to found a similar program to the "Visited and Verified" program. He was a crook, trying to police other crooks.

Looks like his third offense. Sure, I'm inclined to cut the guy some slack, but he had eggs taped to his belly. That doesn't happen by accident.

As for the magazine, I am sure his brother knew of his first two violations? Maybe not.

The African Hunting Expo (I believe) was a huge disappointment to all who attended as exhibitors. Just what I heard. Apparently they did nothing to promote it.

All this is third hand info, so, take it for what it's worth. Taking all this into account, not sure I would want to associate with either one of those two.

I did enjoy the magazine though. What a shame.

Anyone interested in this sort of thing should read "Killing for Profit" by Julian Rademeyer.

It is amazing how intertwined these things can be!!!

His brother obviously new about the convictions. At least the one from 2010. He states as much in this article.

Still with the acknowledgement of prior legal entanglements regarding wildlife violations; it is incredibly dense not to think that this was going to cause a problem. We have an image problem with the average bunny hugger emoticon and this only serves as fuel.
