I haven't followed the give away thread for a while. Are the entry qualifications still the same as when it started? 100 posts as of the beginning of the thread? I knew I should have spoke my mind more often....

If I'm not mistaken that is one day before the NV desert bighorn results come out. I'll be in shambles most of next week!

I never quite understood how this hunt giveaway came about. What exactly is the relationship between the commercial sponsorship and this banner free site? Is it simply that some of the good guys here got together to offer the members a great hunt, with nothing in return?

The AR forum is one of the best places on the internet for dreamers and doers alike. I particularly appreciate the banner free format as it allows me easier access during boring work hours.

Thanks, Brian

This hunt is sponsored by our host, Saeed. He contacted Ray Atkinson to arrange the hunt through his son Pierre Van Atkinson.

Brian,

Welcome to the forum.

For quite some time now, I've had people asking if they could help support AR financially. Some wanted to buy advertising space, and others were offering donations to help offset our expenses in running the site.

We accepted their donations, on the condition that the donations would be used to offer our members a free hunt.

That is how this all came about.

The people who made the donations are only interested in seeing AR get better. And as we have always offered this site to the hunting and shooting community free of charge, the hunt is also offered free of charge.

We just had to add one condition, and that is the required 100 posts on the day the raffle was announced.

I understand that the first step will be to disqualify all of those who so blatantly flouted Saeed's rule prohibiting the posting of anything but an entrant's screen name and number of posts. Red Face

Next, the field will be further thinned by eliminating anyone not from Massachusetts, a hotbed of gun ownership and dangerous game hunting. Roll Eyes

Then, I will email Kathi for reservations with KLM and the Golden Tulip. thumb

Good luck to all those who have entered. If you call me i will tell you of a 55+ inch buff i tied to a tree some 15 years ago with instructions that he be fed only the best grass and be bathed, curried, combed, and taken well care of until my return. I realy had a very hard time finding someone who would comply to my instructions. Good luck to all. Charlie

This is certainly going to be an outstanding hunt for the winner. I was so glad I had made 100 posts by the entry deadline.

I hope the winner can share with everyone in pictures and posts how it was in Tanzania.

That's what I plan to do, if I am the fortunate one Smiler

Well, I'm not holding my breath. Last time I won anything was at a kiddie matinee half a century ago, and it wasn't on my original ticket, either. Traded my kid brother a handful of Milks Duds for the chance on his ticket and won on that.

Hmmm, Milk Duds, anyone?

I was sure they would do that! That will help the odds quite a bit. I would imagine that would include any one who posts pictures along with their screen name also. bewildered I need to save that hotel name, looks like a great place to stay! Smiler

When I was last in Dar, I found a really nice dirt paddock somewhere, actually near the beach, can't remember where it was. Second thoughts the "Goldie Tulips" looks better. Wink

Well... I've never been to Africa except in my dreams. I've been reading about it in books almost all my life and have met several people that have been, including Judge G.

I hope that whoever wins will be kind enough to provide us all with a serious video record of the trip and will provide DVD/CD photo and movie discs of the trip for all of us that wanted to go and couldn't.

It'd also be great if they kept a detailed journal starting the day they are notified that they win to include gun purchases, travel plans, etc.

Thanks to Saeed, Ray and everyone else that has donated their time and money to bring this "dream trip" to the AR community. This is EXCITING!!!

Next Thursday? This means that I´ll need to get two things before that: a) a bottle of good champagne for celebrating my winning b) a bottle of cheap whiskey in case I don´t.

Thank you for allowing me to participate not only on this great board, in all of the many raffles, contests and fund raisers that have been allowed here as well.
This is one of the most diverse boards I participate in and so many people give freely of themselves and their time for many causes and deeds.
Thank You all

Not only should they disqualify anybody that didn't follow the required entry format, they should also disqualify anybody that is not a redhead, seeing how few redheads there are in the world to start with and how few go to Africa. Smiler

I think the journal idea and the video idea is a great one. I promise right now when I win I will take my video camera with me and will journal entry all of the important pre-hunt events, probably do a blog, then will do a written during the trip.

honestly I won't hold my breathe, I did win a pipe once about 4 years ago, but that's about it, don't normally win anything Frowner

I think a better bet for most would be a bottle of cheap champagne just in case they win, and a bottle of GOOD whiskey to drink when they don't.

You shouldn't really need to ask, as any respectable AR member is always logged onto AR! Wink

I have never won anything in my life so I in fact I'm not really feeling lucky about this one either. I do have one request however. I ask the winner to do his utmost to let all the rest of us live vicariously this hunt through good photographs, a detailed journal, and to look at it with the eyes of a discoverer whose main legacy will be to let us all know what the experience felt like.
