The P-14 and P-17 actions are my favorite for the big stuff. They can be cleaned up to look like a Remington 720 so they do not have to be an ugly duckling. A couple of tricks for you. Either use a P-14 or fit a P-14 bolt to a 17 if you are using a magnum size case then you can get rid of the counter bore and extractor cut. For the 404, make sure you open up the rails enough so that the rebated rim makes contact with the bolt face. Cutting the rails to match the radius of the case works well but go slow. At my shop I regularly use these actions for .416 Rigbys, the 404 will work fine just be careful on the rails!!! If you have any questions feel free to call me or Email. 207-938-3595 or theworkshop@tds.net

Has anyone here done a .404 Jeffery on an Enfield P-14 or P-17 action. If so how were you able to get it to feed reliably, OR What gunsmith has experience in making this work? Any help will be appreciated. Les

Those big actions work just fine, but its a waste to use on anything but a real big bore like a 505 Gibbs or 500 Jefferys IMO. Dennis Olson in Plains Mt. can fix you up..406-826-3790

Ray, I not only own one but two 22/6mm Rem's built on Enfields, a 243/06, a 308 Norma, a 338/416 Rigby, & drum roll, a 6 PPC... Just had to jerk your chain a little bit. I had been thinking of doing a spare Win 1917 action in 375 something or other but you actually have me thinking about one of those big boys. I'm going to speak with my gunsmith and have him do at least a portion of the work. Cheers, Reed
