Accurate Reloading Double is here.
Hi All

Just a quick note to let you all know that the Searcy double I won on AR 2 years ago has finally arrived. It actually arrived in Australia about 3 weeks ago but I had a few problems with Customs - they insisted that the front trigger be made slightly heavier. Butch was very helpfull with this, supplying a photo and instructions for me to give to the gunsmith who tackled the job.
Anyhow I got the rifle on Friday afternoon and I am very pleased with it - it is really nicely made and finished. Will keep you all posted on how she shoots, with photos etc.
Thanks once again to all who participated and organised etc.

Cheers

470 NE

Got Jen's kitchen scales out and it weighs about 10lb - not sure how accurate that is but it will be pretty close I think. Nicely balanced too.

Cheers.

Sounds like a nice win!
BTW do Customs usually test triggers on imported guns to ensure safety??
Is there some kind of regulatory minimum weight?

GG375,

I think I remember that! Hell, I had to wait 15 months to get extractors from Williams!

Anyway, even having to wait, I hope you enjoy it.

Customs. Don't even get me started about Customs dictating trigger pull (weight, I assume from your post). IT GOES TO SHOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A COUNTRY BENDS OVER TO GUN CONTROLS. Frowner

Yes to both, in the case of Oz Customs. Except for target arms, replicas, pre-1900 and temporary imports. Min weight [for non-adjustable triggers only] is quoted in the Regs as 11N, a smidgin under 2.5 lbf. That seems a tad light for a .470NE anyway!

There's also a 'drop test' that they have to pass - dropped vertically 14-18", landing butt first on a rubber mat. No discharges in 3 trials [recocking each time], to get a pass.
