I'm looking at a buffalo hunt in the Luangwa Valley, with Van Noordwyk Safaris. Does anyone have any experience with this operator and be willing to share their thoughts on the operation?

Never heard of them. If I was going to Zambia I would go with Andrew Baldry he posts here as fairgame.

Believe he hunts Peter Chipmans area. Good Luangwa areas including Lower Lupande.

I met him a few years ago at a dinner. Likeable guy. I have never hunted with him though.

I had a great safari with Muchinga in the Chifunda concession. Highly recommend. Mark Young can set you up with them.

I did much of my buffalo hunting with Werner Van Noordwyk in the Nkala GMA (an area he no longer holds) during the second year of my apprenticeship in Zambia. Werner is a good guy, loves to hunt, and knows how to hunt buffalo. You'll have a nice safari with him. The other PHs he uses (or at least the ones he used while I was there: Alister Norton, Gavin Robinson, and Stephen Henderson) are also good to hunt with.

As others have said here, Andrew is always a top choice for Zambia and he takes some excellent hard-bossed bulls. He is a good friend and just plain fun to hunt with. I hunted with him in Lunga Luswishi during my apprenticeship and have dined (with Frostbit and Bait Babe) at his Royal Kafue camp across the river.

Thor Kirchner is another great option for buffalo.

You will not be disappointed and Werner is a top notch PH and affiliated with Zaeed patel and Peter Chipman who can claim the best concessions in Zambia. In addition you will be hunting the famous Luangwa Valley. Look forward to the report. Presume you will be hunting Lower Lupande or Chikwa?

As always, a gentleman. Although I don’t know him, he promotes hunting in Zambia with the right people.

Werner is solid.

I've not personally hunted with him, but I've known him more than ten years and many of my friends have hunted with him, all with good results.

I'm beginning to have doubts, if he's recommended by Andrew Baldry, Buzz Charlton, Guy Whittall, Thierry Labat and Thor Kirchner, how good can he be?

As a ph myself I have known Werner for many years and hunted with and alongside him on many occasions. He runs a very smooth and professional operation. He’s a true gentleman with the highest of ethics as well as being one of the best hunters I know of. You will have no disappointments hunting with Werner. Highly recommended

Werner sounds like a good guy.

But if I was booking in Zambia today it would be with Andrew Baldry.

From what I have read of his hunts and knowing what he has put into his area, this is the real conservation success story I would be supporting.
Your money will literally be going straight to where it is needed.

Aside from the great trophies, Andrew offers true adventure, carved out of a wild place with blood sweat and no doubt a few tears along the way.

I don't think you will be disappointed with a buffalo hunt in the Luangwa valley regardless whether it is in the upper, or lower Lupande, and there is tons of game any place along the Luangwa river! One of my favorite places in Africa. Im not familiar with Werner but if Andrew recommends him that would be good enough for me!
Have a good hunt, and bag yourself a good buffalo, and while you are in the valley try for good PUKU ram that animal is not found in most of the rest of Africa that I'm aware of. Good Cookson's wildebeest are plenty well populated there as well!
………………………………………………………..Have a good safari you wont be disappointed! tu2

Just wanted to thank everyone for sharing their thoughts. Looks like we'll be in the Lower Lupande next August hunting buffalo with Werner Van Noordwyk and Peter Chipmans operation there in the Luangwa Valley.
