What unbelievable stress those folks put on the elephants. Even encountering elephants and observing them from a reasonable distance is not always without risk. Harrassing elephants swimming (with calves) and then getting up close and not having any escape route is just plain stupid. Who the heck can paddle faster than an elephant can run... evidently not the folks in the video.

I'm sorry if anyone died, but, damn, what the heck did they expect?

Surprised it didn't happen earlier in the video. Shame on the guides in that one. I guess Disney was wrong.

Absolutely the guide's fault. The tourists I'm sure thought they were in no danger.

Jeez...I was watching the vid and thought DON'T get closer and push them. It is hard with telephoto lens shots to see the relative distance but sure enough the lens didn't lie and they were on them pretty close. Jeez again...what were they/he (the guide) thinking? You CAN'T push/get THAT close to WILD animals (under duress!) and expect a good outcome. HELLO!

If this video is real, and the results are as reported, then it is an incident that no news media anywhere in the world picked up on. I did thorough search -- twice.

Live Leak does not do the best job of assuring the authencity of its contents. In fact, the site seems to primarily focus on showing U.S. service men coming under attack in Iraq.

I'm not saying it's not real, but it seems suspicious to me, at least the stated results seem suspicious

If I was guiding that canoe trip..

1) Would have stayed behind the swimming elephants, NOT got infront and harrassed them.
2)Perhaps moved alongside them, upstream of them, at a safer distance.
3) When they got onto the river bank, stay in the water at a safe distance and bid them farewell. Pulling up on shore like that was not smart, nor was harrasing that intensely while swimming...

If these folks were the average eco-tourists, I submit that they care little about the animals that they are viewing. Their physical imposition into something already as stressful as a swim across a wide river shows little respect for the animals and is, to my simple mind, distrubing, egotistical and just plain uncalled for.

Hunting has always had a purpose. What exactly is the purpose of driving a bunch of elephant mad.

As to the authenticity of the tape, it is real that someone is harrassing elephants.. even if no one got killed.
