And you are steaming to Mombasa for a safari in Masailand. What guns have you brought along?

Although the year was 2006, I took my 1874 Sharps. One gun is enough.

Worked just fine.

1). Top grade 8 bore double.
2). .45 Calber Martini-Henry
3). Winchester 1876 in .45/75.

And a Peacemaker in .45 Colt, of course.

#2 was the standard Brittish Army issue weapon of the time (I believe). I'd imagine that you'd have a the best chance of finding ammo for something like that out in the middle of nowhere. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind a good Sharps .45/90.

Of course, in the days of Empire, there were many more British than Brittish.

Since all of you are so enamored of the Martini, I have a .577/450 that I would part with. It's a fancy sporter, not a military rifle. Flip me an email at brentd@iastate.edu if you are interested.
