I was under the distinct impression that the 4457 form for proof of ownership of firearms and such was good for life. A friend says he found on a US customs website that you should get a new one for each trip. Any info that I am missing?

Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

"The Certificate of Registration (CBPF 4457) that you will be given will expedite the free entry of these items when you return. Keep the certificate as it is valid for as long as you own the article(s)."

Customs Scroll down to the last paragraph.

"The form remains valid for re-importation of the registered articles for as long as the document is legible. The certificate is not transferable."

Hi Folks, Looks like I need to get one of these, can anyone tell me how to find someplace closer to home to get one filled out. Could it be done at a courthouse or something? I live pretty far from the airport and didn't want to wait until flight day. Thanks Joe

Joe,

Not available at courthouses, only at US Customs Offices.

See if any of these are close to you (call them first).

US CUSTOMS

Thanks Terry, I'll head over to the airport, I'm about halfway between Cleveland and Pittsburgh so whichever city is having the best weather will be the right direction!
Thanks Joe

goosejoe,

How about Erie, Pa airport..You need an airport which is a port of Entry...You also must have your rifles cameras and binos or whatever high price ticket items you are taking
so to show that you had them with you on the way out....So agent can verify serial numbers you wrote down...

Hi Mike, How ya been? I'll probably wait until I go to Cleveland for the Sportsman Show at the I-X Center. It's right next to the airport so I can kill 2 birds with one stone. Thanks Joe
