That is a nice rememberance. I was amazed at the photo of Allen with his leopard and how it looked so effortless to hold him.

What happened to Allen?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." Cicero - 55 BC

Cogito ergo venor- KPete

“It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities but of their advantages.”

Well done Nick and thanks for the post.

Allen was an experienced international hunter and his views and comments are missed.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

I, too, am curious. I've seen this over the past five years I've been around. Maybe not the whole time, but he must've been a heck of a guy.

I met Allan here on AR, as I have so many other fine people.

We spoke on the phone several times.

I wish I could have met him in person.

If I remember correctly he hunted with Mark Sullivan on 2 different Safaris.

He had nothing but great things to say about Mark, and his hunts with him, and how he treated his trackers and other staff.

Allan was died in the wool [Quality] Bolt Rifle Trash, Big Grin ,and we had a few fun discussions about about "One barrel vs Two"...

Yes, he left us too soon.

Allen was a gentleman stood for what he believed in and he was generous with those of us who were lucky enough to have met him here on the forum.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

We shared several camps and AD was first class all the way. I am truly sorry we weren't able to make more hunts together.

Yes, Allen Day was a great guy. His only fault was liking to hunt with Mark Sullivan.
