Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Karl Stumpf (posts as Karl S) on here is the PH in question. When he attended a DRSS hunt some years back I drove the four hours to camp with him and hunted with him for wild hogs. He told us the story about that incident. Pretty friggin' awesome.

I can't find a post about that incident.

A guy named Cottar, a PH in Kenya, killed more than one with his bare hands. That was in the 1920's, I believe. He was born in the US, Oklahoma somewhere.

Paul Connolly fought one for 5 minutes at Vic Falls, after it smashed through his lounge window to get at him. Finally killed it when a neighbor brought a gun but I guess they were both pretty knackered by the end of the bout!

There was a thread on AR about an indigenous Zambian or Zimbabwean killing one with his bare hands after it went after his grandson.

Grandfather kills leopard with his bare hands

June 22 2005 at 04:59pm
Nairobi - A 73-year-old Kenyan grandfather reached into the mouth of an attacking leopard and tore out its tongue to kill it, authorities said on Wednesday.

Peasant farmer Daniel M'Mburugu was tending to his potato and bean crops in a rural area near Mount Kenya when the leopard charged out of the long grass and leapt on him.

M'Mburugu had a machete in one hand but dropped that to thrust his fist down the leopard's mouth. He gradually managed to pull out the animal's tongue, leaving it in its death-throes.

"It let out a blood-curdling snarl that made the birds stop chirping," he told the daily Standard newspaper of how the leopard came at him and knocked him over.

The leopard sank its teeth into the farmer's wrist and mauled him with its claws. "A voice, which must have come from God, whispered to me to drop the panga (machete) and thrust my hand in its wide open mouth. I obeyed," M'Mburugu said.

As the leopard was dying, a neighbour heard the screams and arrived to finish it off with a machete.

M'Mburugu was toasted as a hero in his village Kihato after the incident earlier this month. He was also given free hospital treatment by astonished local authorities.

"This guy is very lucky to be alive," Kenya Wildlife Service official Connie Maina told Reuters, confirming details of the incident.

'Did a quick search on Charles Cottar; I knew I'd read about him before. Amazon has a book (used!) about his life for a mere $810.00. Free shipping...for college students.

I believe that Cottar killed a total of three leopards barehanded in his lifetime. One adult female one on one. And two not grown leopards at the same time.

Much of a man.....
