Leaving for Namibia in 5 weeks. I had the same concerns and received an E-mail today from SAA saying as long as I didn't leave the transit area and enter RSA, I had no need for temporary/transit permit and could check baggage and firearm straight thru to Windhoek. Hopefully will hold true when I get there.

A very good source on the ground in South Africa told me that Air2000 made up the advance permit requirement, and furthermore that they don't have a permit to "meet & greet" people disembarking from a scheduled flight into JNB, only at Lanseria or pax from a private flight diverted from Lanseria to JNB. I trust this source implicitly, and given this background, I wouldn't have anything at all to do with Air2000.

Y'know, I wondered about that . . . and several other things . . .

I just received notification from Air 2000 that the South African government has shelved the need for the in-transit permit for firearms. I had contacted Air 2000 about a month ago to arrange the permits in advance. Ten days to go until Zim !
