JB, february is extremely warm. Read HOT! South Africa does not have one rainfall pattern. In the cape the winter - June-Sept - is cold and rainy, in KZN Natal our rains are more in the summer tapering off in April. Naturally the weather patterns have been playing havoc with the drought we are experiencing at present. Try and hold off until April or May. The grass is still long and the bush is thick so hunting is very challenging. July to Sept the undergrowth has died down and visibility is much better.

The bush is wet in Feb and the hunting can be miserable. The Ticks(all bugs) are going to be thick as well. To travel that far for an important hunting trip I would not hunt before April 15th. I have had people here, hunt in March and April. Saeed was one of them. Much time was spent digging the truck out of the mud and soaking wet sand. The peak of the hunting season is from May first til mid July. Earlier or later then that is more (high)risk from weather problems. Of the 12 months of the year Decemeber through March would be the worst months to be in the bush. The cost savings offered will not likely be worth the end result, at least in my opinion. I would not arrange a hunt on my place during those months unless there were very unusual circumstances!
