I've had the joy of sipping a single malt, smelling the curl of mopane smoke, grabbing a handfull of pop corn, a strip biltong or maybe a bit of cheese on a cracker, all the while watching the sky turn from blue, to pink, to red, then to purple as only it can in Africa... and have the unmitigated joy of hearing this story from the mouth of the writer: Zimbabwe Jaws I'll be back in September by that fire, this time at Chete. Can't wait! Two old warriors, both with stories to tell and trying to out do the other.... But I always lose to the Master. Ain't life grand! JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

"We had not gone 10 yards when a bird started chirping. By the time my brain had interpreted the significance of this sound, with a grunt, the leopard was on his way straight at Steve. At that moment, our man Phoeneas, who was on my right, took off like lightning, yodelling loudly. The leopard homed in on the flying figure while Steve let go with his .375. And missed. The cat changed direction almost in mid-air and went for Steve, who was busy trying to reload. He took a pace back and tripped over a log and went down. This gave me a clear shot and I smoked the tom with both barrels, dropping the cat three feet in front of the prostrate hunter. There was a dead silence punctuated only by the echo of Phoeneas’ yodelling as he ramped the horizon." Great short story! Where do I find more of Lou Hallamore's latest writing. Tell him to keep up the good work.
