I just signed up as a member of The Hunting Report. Seems like a great tool for planning hunts. Just searched quickly for "Nyala" and "Dik-dik" hunting reports and the number of hits were astonishing in my opinion.

Anyone else with long-term relations to The Hunting Report? Is it as good as it seems?

I've found the on-line hunt reports to be a very useful tool, especially when considering areas or game that I'm not familiar with. The people who I have contacted in regards to an area or outfitter have been very helpful.

Not to change the subject...but anybody know whatever happened to SCI's hunt reports? When I was researching the Sapi concession in Zim, I emailed them per their contact several times requesting "hard copies" of reports, but never heard back. At one point the reports were on-line, but that was years ago.

I don't think one precludes the other, not everybody is a regular member of AR (yet Big Grin).

Been with this outfit for about 16 years or so, and find them reliable. Never really used the service to my advantage as yet though!

I tried a couple times to get SCI reports. Like talking to a black hole. Forget it.

SCI is in the business of keeping their sponsors (including Out of Africa Safaris) happy, so don't expect anything truthful out of them.

I have subscribed to the Hunting Report for quite a few years (maybe 10 or so??). I have also ordered some of their hunt reports when investigating a particular subject. Never had reason to complain. The newsletter has become quite a bit more expensive than what I remembered from days past, but I guess all prices go up.

Having joined AR a few years back, this has now become my first source of information. But that does not rule out the use of the Hunting Report as a good source of information.

AR is a great tool! thumb No dubt about it. Probably my first source as well. I just like the idea of investigating different views and using different tools. Was thinking of adding the record books to my collection as well. They might come out handy.
When choosing outfitter/PH/area I like to investigate as much as possible, sometimes a bit to much maybe. Smiler My first hunt in RSA wasn`t as good as it could be to say the least. And this experience thought me a big lesson...

Will & 500 - I agree. I don't mean to degrade SCI, but with resources available like AR and The Hunting Report hunt database (not referring to the newsletters), I'm not sure what value I personally derive from my $50 membership w/SCI. I did just renew for another year, thinking maybe I'll get to the show this year, but it was after some deliberation.

I subscribed to the hunting report for a year and did not renew. Just wasn't my cup of tea. I find the AR board more informative and better connected. The best thing about this site is you don't get alot of comercials and you know damn well Saeed isn't a shill for anyone.
