I understand the rules changed a bit on January 1st of this year. Besides the SAP 520 form and the US Customs 4457 form, what else is needed? I have heard that it's a good idea to have a letter from your outfitter, and a "notarized" 4457. I'm not talking about transiting through there, but rather going to SA to hunt. Just bolt action rifles, no handguns or semi-auto weapons.

If anyone has been since the first of this year, I'd appreciate the straight skinny.

There is no such thing as a notarized 4457.

Go to the PHASA Website and click on "General Hunting Information" and then click on "Importation of Firearms".

Terry

I could be wrong, but I think the 4457 is more for us bring our rifles back into the US. The RSA officials didn't bother to look at ours, just the 520's. On our return US Customs did want the 4457s. If you plan on using the same rifles on future hunts, save the because they have no expiration date on them.

HT,
Check with the outfitter you are hunting with, he should be able to give you all the details and help you to import your rifles. After all you are paying him to help you with all the nitty gritty stuff.

One o he things they require is proof of ownership hence the 4457. If you're sending a copy in advance it needs to be notorised.

A letter of invitation from the outfitter is also necessary as is other paperwork.

As Terr say's, you should check the PHASA website........but your outfitter should be doing all this for you. That's what you have paid him for.
