I got my 2007 Calandar all the way from the UAE today and just want to thank Saeed for his courtesy and generosity in sending it to me....thanks Saeed.

However I'd like some discussion please...it's about the tree on the month of March.

It's absolutely immense....I asume it's a Baibob.....Saeed, can you tell us more about it please?

Where is it?..how big?...how old?...it's an amazing tree for sure!!!!!

The tree is a boabab, but I have no idea who old it is.

May be some of our more knowledgeable friends can enlighten us on this.

January's photo is an old dugga boy we saw as we drove back to a bull we shot earlier - he is the one that was walking towards us, and got shot at about 12 yards. After we shot that one, we ran after the rest of the herd, trying to get another one.

We caught up with them, and shot the one with the white face.

We then saw this one in teh same dry river bedd where we had shot the first one.

February's is of our champion, Walter, who did manage to kill a warthog after several attempts.

March is of course of the boabab tree, Todd, Dwight and their PH standing in front of it.

April is a leoprad we saw one morning. He just crouched down as you see in the photo a few yards from us.

May is of our hippo.

June is of a beautiful butterfly.

July is of our croc.

August is of vultures and barabo storks feasting on a buffalo stomach.

It is from one of the two we shot together that dropped in their tracks.

September is of that white faced buffalo with the funny horns.

October is of the mud covered dugga boy we shot on our first day.

November is of a hippo who did not like us, and jumped into teh river running very fast.

December is of an African wild dog from a bunch we saw one morning.

If you think that's a big tree, take a look at this monster.

I've read that many of the old Baobab trees are up to 3,500 or even 4,500 years old.

Cheers,
Canuck

I've been told that one of the oldest ones has been carbon dated to about 6000 years old.

Here's one from Makgadikgadi salt pans in Botswana. It is substantially bigger than some nearby ones we were told were about 4000 years old, so this one is obviously older than that:

These are great trees. The problem is we will not see them in the future in the kruger park.

Due to the high density of elephannts and their liking of this tree. It seems that there are not enough trees surviving the pressures.

The greenies do not see this. After all to them conservation is about thesurvival of a single species the elephant and not the health of the entire eco system.
