"Good" is a relative thing. There is good wing shooting, decent warthogs, and in some of the more remote places or on private ranches there is Western Roan, Harnessed bushbuck, maybe even Defassa Waterbuck or Buffalo. If you take an over and under in 12 gauge and a .375 H&H rifle you will have exactly what you need for everything. In fact, that would work the world over. Follow the link to see one outfitter's offers, which include hippo, buffalo, crocodile and roan, some of them in the Gambia. http://www.bouky.com/gibier-afrique.php I would try to get your firearm import regulations and permits in order before you go. They may take some time for a semi-permanent import as a future resident. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Thanks Wink, will do some more research before I visit her. All the pages I looked at only showed that you could take 1 warthog/week..

Or you could take a drilling 12X12 over 9.3X74R.

I have a friend who was a missionary in Senegal for many years. He isn't a hunter, but is a keen fisherman. Plenty of good salt water fishing on the coast and fresh water river fishing, especially in Gambia, of course. He told me about seeing mostly French hunters heading out towards the east with rifles, but didn't know any details about their quarry or success rate. I think DOJ's idea of a heavy drilling is excellent advice, as it would be the ideal weapon to have, if you can only have one gun. In fact, a drilling would be an ideal second weapon to have on any safari. The only problem with a drilling is its expense in the US, and the relative rareness of the 12x12 by 9.3x74R configuration on the used gun market. @Brett, Sweden, I've heerd 'bout it. Ain't it out of the county, somewhere? Probably can find plenty of used drillings there at good prices and the right configuration. ????????????? Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown
