Hello all,
My first post here although I've been reading for almost a year. I'm planning a plains game hunt for 2010 and would like some suggestions. The animals I would most like to take are the Waterbuck and Kudu, Oryx, Impala and Black Wildebeest would be others of interest. I have sent out emails to a couple of places already that seem to offer what I'm looking for but I would like recommendations from those who have been there. This will be my first safari and my first trip back to Africa since 1985.

I look forward to your input,

Bob

BobT, you'll get plenty og advice/solicitations, from this forum. I went on my 1st. plains game safari last July. Here is who I hunted with. I personally think they are the biggest bang for the buck in RSA. We booked the millenium pkg., and took extra game. 4 of use took 30 animals in 10 days. The only thing is they don't offer black wildebeast. Here is their website.

BobT,

Welcome to the forums... If you could come to the Dallas safari convention in Jan 8th-11th 09 and you will see and speak to many South African and Namibian PH's... Will probably find some great deals also..
Also come and meet us AR guys at our get togethers...

Looks like the best place for you to go would either be RSA or Nambia. Here is an putfit that I have hunted with three times. They are located in Limpopo of RSA.

Welcome to the forum Bob. You might like to take a look at www.shakariconnection.com where you'll find all the (unbiased) tools and advice to research, select and plan your hunt.

Hope it helps. Wink

Bob, there are MANY EXCELLENT outfitters and PH's that post here. That being said, I have hunted with Bobby Hansen of Bobby Hansen Safaris and have friends that hunt with him regularly. He has concessions in nummerous locations within SA and is an awesome PH...as are his other PH's and staff. He will be at both Dallas and Reno....at least stop by his booth before you make your decision....and tell him Gary said hello. I'll be in Dallas also, so maybe we'll have a chat if you're there.

I am taking my son to hunt with Bobby in June '09.

Good luck.

Steve is right....if it can't hit back, it's not as much fun! However, in a former life, I did like PG hunting...but now I have no more room for mounts....well except up high for my leopard.

You have been to Africa in the past and many things have changed since that time, there are some very good PH's still opereting and game quality is as good as ever.
I was hunting SA and Zim a couple of years back and met a guy named Brent Sinclair who was there with some clients he booked for the safari.
What imperssed me was that this Canadian ourfitter also booked his clients on many other hunts around the world AND ACCOMPANIED them as well.
He has some very good contact's with PH's and I do believe he is going back to hunt Zim.Namibia and Mozambique with clients this spring of 09.
Contact him you will not be sorry you did.

Bob:
3 years ago my son and I hunted SA and Namibia on the same trip. We were not impressed with SA. We were in the North part. Near Ellisras. (SP) Nice folks but lots of high fences. We hunted one place with 18000 acres under high electric fence. Pretty impressive.
We loved Namibia. All low cow fence. Only high fence we saw was one farmer was trying to start Eland on his farm. He had them in a pen so they could get used to the area. Stayed in a farm house and a tent. Hunted 3 different ranches. Shot Kudu, Oryx, Red Hartebeast, Springbok, Duiker, Steenbok, Jackals, Warthog and Baboon. 4 of the animals made Rowland Ward. We were not trophy hunting. Just wanted good animals. His prices were very competitive. No charge for the Baboon or Jackals. Bird hunting is free also.
The guy is born/raised in Namibia. Uses no agents or outfitters, you book directly with him. You can fly from Frankfurt to Windhoek and you don't have to screw with SAA or JoBurgs stupid airport.
His name is Hentie Van Heerden. His site is Van Heerden Safaris.
I'm not an agent and don't make any money from this, I just think you will have a good hunt with him.
Tell him TJ sent you.
Good Luck.

Recommend Gras Ranch in Namibia. See the above website for info. Great place, accomodations, food, locale, trophies, people.

I was there in 2005 (seems so long ago now).

I think they are doing the big shows this month.

Bob,

RSA and Namibia aren't the only places for plains game. We have a marvelous and wild concession in Botswana in the same price range as RSA and Namib. If you're interested let me know.

Bob T; I live at Lake of The Ozarks. Do you live near here? I have been on 4 plains game hunts. Three to SA and one to Namibia. Great fun. Go as soon as you can. I think it will be a couple of years before I can return. I still have animals at the taxidermist who is also a booking agent. He really does a great job on African Animals.
