Just curious if anyone has hunted this area. If you have, what did you hunt and how did you like the area. I would love to see any pictures of the area if anyone has them. I am interested in hunting this area with HHK in 06.

Thanks
crl

I hunted there and Chete 3 years ago as part of a buffalo/leopard/plainsgame combo using both gun and bow

While at Lemco,I spent most of my time bowhunting out of blinds. The game was plentiful. The camp was first-rate, the staff were very helpful, and I took an impala, eland, warthog with my bow.

I did not hunt much with a rifle but I harvested a wildebeest and zebra with a gun. I could have shot numerous kudu but I was looking for one pushing 60 inches. They had some very large buffalo at Lemco but I was hunting buffalo at Chete.

While I was there, they were in the middle of a drought which was killing some of the animals. This eland that I shot with the bow had a good set of horns but was very skinny. I have been told that the rains came after I left and the animals have recovered. You will notice that in the background of this picture there is no vegetation for the animals to eat.

My hunt was cut short because my PH came down with malaria and tick fever. He was actually hospitalized.

Who is your PH? I used Ivan Carter and he was fantastic.

It is a 3/4 of a million acre Zoo! A few small game ranches that I have visited and hunted on (soet of 20,000 acre size have been as well stocked but asside from Malalangwe there is nothing else comparable for plainsgame/leopard in africa.( Non hunting areas arround killamanjaro are simmilar for numbers) They do have buff and the herd is growing well but not in the countless thousands bracket.

As Ganyana says, Lemco is as close to plainsgame paradise as you can get. Lots of big leopard there as well. The camps are all first class and situated overlooking water or an open plain for game viewing in the evening. The terrain is generally flat bushveld, interspersed with kopjes and criss-crossed with creekbeds, which are mostly dry during winter. There are also a few large lakes (dams) on the property. The buffalo and lion population are healthy and there are quite a few resident elephant and a herd of black rhino to keep things interesting.

As David says, "Lemco is a plains game paradise". The camps are fantastic. I stayed in the last tent camp and I emjoyed it very much. I am not one that enjoys the swimming pools etc, but I know that a lot of others do. My PH was Brent Hein and I have said this before and will say again, ask Brent about Bengal Tigers and he probably can show you one. One simply cannot go wrong hunting with HHK. You will have a helleva hunt. I have a lot of pictures of LEMCO but I do not know how to post them.

I hunted there in 2003 and really enjoyed it. After hunting for my buff up at Chirisa, we drove down to hunt at Lemco for 8 days. The place is huge (when there they said it was 950,000 acres and that it used to be 1 million, but the land grab cost them a parcel). You'll have a chance at a remarkable assortment of game when there. The one issue you'll need to investigate is that the place is divided into different sections and each has its own quota of animals. When there, one of the things I really wanted was a sable. The section where I hunted had very few, while another section that had used up its quota by the time that I got there had plenty. You'll want to check with HHK to make sure that you'll have the best chance for the species you want.
There are many good times of the year to go, but a popular time is in Sept and Oct, which is when it's very dry. They'll tell you that you will more easily find game in Africa during those conditions as the animals congregate near water, making them easier to hunt. The only problem is that is also when it is getting late in their hunting season, which could create situations like I found with my sable. The point is that you need to communicate with your outfitter and let them know what you want before you go and where you have priorities. No doubt they'll make every effort to meet your requests.
The accomodations there are awesome. They really do treat you well. If you're interested in some pics of Lemco, including some of the accomodations, let me know and I'll post them.
