Another Roaming Lion Shot in Oshikoto Oswald Shivute 2 July 2010 One of the lions roaming the Chamcham and Mangetti areas of the Oshikoto Region was shot on Sunday, the Senior Game Guard in the King Nehale Conservancy, Thomas Tutaleni-Niingungo, confirmed yesterday. The lions entered the eastern part of the Oshikoto communal grazing area in April and May this year after escaping from the Etosha National Park. Officials of the Ministry of Environment are still struggling to get the lions back into the park, but in the meantime local farmers are demanding that they be shot for killing their cattle. The ministry's Chief Control Warden in the North, Chrispin Nkonkuena, said 11 cattle had been killed so far. He said farmers whose cattle had been killed by lions would receive compensation of N$1 500 per head.
