I have been hired to go and film a fishing movie again but this time with other fishermen. "Spyker" Kruger and Rick Sham of "Screeming reels". We will be going to Angola in the South anyone been or done fishing there. Going for my yellow fever shot today as well any bad effects ?

Sorry but its a first for me going to Angola as well as a chance to catch some nice fish as well. Never caught any saltwater fish before and quite exited.

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

Frederick,

I am a "salted" rock and surf angler, but started as you did as a "papgooier". We are planning a similar Safari in 2008. 4 Double 4x4's and 12 guys. My brother hired the services of Spyker now in Dec. for one day near Henties, to chat a bit about our excursion.

I can tell you this. The place is WILD and there is a lot of "off road" driving. It is a truly wild safari experience, for some of the best shore sports fishing in the world. My best mate returned from there not two months ago, and they had a BIG adventure.

Enjoy!

Charl,

If we are lucky and have enough days to spare we will spend maybe one or two days at Henties on our way up.

Will capture a lot of footage and photos to show when I'm back we are leaving around the 3rd November and be back 18th November.

Hey Frederick,

You must give me an update on this trip, I see you are getting back just in time for our Big Bore shoot so perhaps we chat in between filming the big bore shoot.

I am keen on adding Angola to my other sportfishing stuff herehttp://www.pureafrica.com/pure_display.aspx?pid=111

This September I hired Moren Horn out of Swakopmund to do some surf fishing, I had a great time! Moren told me about an outfitter African Adventures ( www.adventures.com.na/AngolaAdventuresandAngling.htm)
They take groups of anglers to Angola every year . It sounds like the fishing ( mostly surf casting ) is outstanding . Be sure to go equipped to deal with wind, sand and salt water spray! On the coast the saltwater mist was a major problem for me. I would recommend bring a sealed air tight case for your cameras and distilled water ( not bottled drinking water ) and lots of cleaning cloths for your lens. I would also recommend bring several extra UV filters to help protect your lens form the saltwater spray.
Good luck from Alaska

Never had bad effects from yellow fever shot....almost all my mates have one too for the time we spend on the White Nile...no one ever said anything. After te shot they sht they should ask yo to hang around for 20 mins or so just to make sure.

MAKE COPIES of your vaccination cert. and leave them at home so if you lose it abroad it an be faxed to you.(I do this with all documents).
Enjoy, I am keen to see Angola too!

I know of someone on another board that is working in Angola and fishes offshore often. He has been finding quite a few marlin, some dorado, and other fish.

Charles,

We will only be fishing from the shore as far as I know.

Kayaker,

No, no symptoms from the shot however they didnt ask me to hang for a while. Good tip with documents not a bad idea at all.

In fact last time I was abroad in South America I scanned all my documents, visas, certs, CC or anthing of importance and not only left copies with fmaily at home but emailed them to my self at a Gmail address and put passwords on the documents...so the electronic documents are protected with your email passwords and software passwords. That way if you lose one, you head to the nearest internet facility and print off a copy.....

I fished quite a bit in Angola in the 70s. We fished in the estuary of the Cuanza River, just south of Luanda mainly. Phenomenal fishing. Tarpon are the main quarry but Red Snapper, Queenfish and a Mullet-on-Steroids (long silver gamefish with whiskers) were taken on plugs and live bait in numbers, every day. 50 to 100 lb fish. We also surf fished on the coast near Lobito I think and it was every second cast a fish, but nothing large. Then again this was the middle of the day and we were just fooling around.

I hear the place is now pretty much lawless so look out.

We are going just over the border at Kunene. I'm also going with people who regurlaly take people up there for fishing tours so I suppose they know the in's and out. But thanks for the heads up. 5 more days before we leave cannot wait ! thumb

Frederick,

Give me a ring when you get back. I'll drive up to Pta with a few cold ones, and then you can share your experience with me.....

Enjoy, good luck, and stay safe...
