The trophies from my plains game hunt arrived. Included in my shipment were 2 Kudu, 1 Eland, 4 Impala, 1 Blue wildebeest, 1 Blesbuck, 1 Zebra rug, back skins for all, 4 Zebra feet, 3 full Impala skins. All the skulls were boiled, all the skins were tanned, backskins tanned, capes tanned, zebra rug on felt, 4 zebra feet tanned. Air freight on AirFrance was $848.00 The crate was 4'x4'x3' and weighed 97kg. Everything got here in one piece with no damage. Here was the clearing process. Safari taxidermy in Pietersburg did the work and notified when everything was complete. I wired the funds to SA. Then Safari Air Cargo notified me they were ready to ship. I wire the funds to them. They sent me the shipping info to include the airway bill and an invoice. I went on US Fish and Wildlife web site and filed a 3-177 declaration form. I tracked the shipment on AirFrance web site. Once the shipment arrived USDA had to do an inspection which they did before I even contacted them. Once this is done I went to AirFrance Cargo and picked up the paperwork, note the USDA inspection must be done before you can get the paperwork. I then carried it to USFW to schedule an inspection ( which had also been done). The USFW gave me a clearence letter. They told me to go 2 doors down to US Customs and clear them. All US Customs did was look over the invoice and stamped it. I then went back to AirFrance and told them I was there to pick up my crate. They went and got the crate and loaded it in my truck. The whole process took less than 1 hour start to finish. Hope this helps someone. The process may be a bit different if you have swine or primates, this was just plains game animals. Oh yea the Zebra rug looks awesome and is much bigger than I thought.

Did you have to pay any fees for the inspections? ****************************************************************** R. Lee Ermey: "The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle." ****************************************************************** We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Oh yea, at AirFrance I had to pay $30 dollars and show my drivers license. Hunted with Sand River Safaris. No fees for the inspections. Would have been $60 if I would have needed it after hours or on the weekend.

I didn't clear my own trophies in 2003, but I used Safari Taxidermy, I can't say enough about them. They were great and very reasonable and do very good work. I couldnt complain about 365 bucks for a kudu shoulder mount, tanned not cured. Lots of the hunting operations in the Northern provice of SA us Safari. I used Flora and Fauna to clear mine and ship to my door step. As far as clearing things myself, I wasn't sure of port of entry and etc. Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)

Congratulations on navigating a course thru a maze of oppertunistic middlemen. Out of curiosity what was your port of entry?

My port of entry was Atlanta. US Customs, US Fish and Wildlife, and AirFrance Cargo were all within 1 mile.
