Saeed:

What appalls me is that you and the other apparently experienced lion hunters recognize a phony film so easily. (I confess, despite never having seen lion, that the retreat by the lion looked phony and, certainly, even I know that a lion hitting someone would do some damage, real damage) Can't you people give some advice to what I suspect are a lot of people in the USA and maybe elsewhere who don't know about "canned hunts" for lion?

Why would it "appal you" that sport hunters would recognize that towing an entourage of people around a fenced enclosure to shoot a lion is a canned hunt?

There were a couple clues...in the longer versions of this video that I've seen you could see what appears to be a fence corner, telephone poles, and perhaps even glimpses of cages/pens. The lion looks like he's been to a beauty salon, his mane all fluffed up, plus he acts not too sure what to do. What tops it off is the entourage of people traipsing along with the "shooter", plus a camera man.

I tip my hat to the lion, he was a quick study and damn near got some payback!

The shooter is the guy paying for the "high-fenced hunt", an American from "west of the Mississippi". The original plan was to edit out the fence and market a video, but the clip leaked out (probably by the PH, who is the guy apparently tripping in the video). If nothing else, the shooter stood his ground

Kevin NY:

Would you read my post again - and this time try to read slowly without moving your lips before you shoot your mouth off? How many lion have you faced, by the way?

What exactly do you have in mind doing with this information about canned lion hunts provided to you by PHs and experienced hunters, Gerald from NY?

It's a fun film to watch even though I wouldn't feel right about that kind of hunt. The fellow doing the shooting does not seem to be very proficient with his rifle, so perhaps he is new to the sport and has not really found his bearings yet.

Gerald,

I did read your post again and your sentence structure implies that you find it appalling (def.- Fills you with a sense of disgust), that legit hunters would recognize a canned hunt. Are you trying to imply that many people here on AR participate in such activities?

I did read your post carefully and tried to ask you a legitimate question in order to better understand your point of view. There is no need to accuse me of "shooting my mouth off" by doing so. Can a person not ask you to clarify a statement without you getting offended and rude, I would hope so.

I guess I am a bad person. Under these circumstances I was rooting for the lion.

During my trip in RSA in Apr. this year I visited two places where lions where "farmed". These farms sold lions to national parks and for hunts. My PH told me that the lions where released into a fenced farm and the hut was started after the lion had made its first kill. One of the farms we visited that breed lions was aprox. 3000 ha. I got the inpression that these hunts was quite hard on the nervs, the hunting was made staking style and the lions didnt behave like vild ones. Often the lions charged without any warnings or mock charges etc. My PH ranked these hunts as one of the most dangerous for both hunter and PH.

I wouldnt dream of shooting a lion this way, even if I got it for nothing!

I'm pretty sure you were not alone. Infact, I would think the majority of posters were rooting for the lion in this canned setup...

If you do a search you'll see that a verdict of 'canned hunt' was handed down by the voice of infallibility (us).
