Double BCRecommended Reading
Hey guys,
Can someone recommend something from Safari Press's current inventory.
I have a little holiday coming up and would like to get a couple new books.
http://www.safaripress.com/books/africa.htmlAlso, does anyone know where I can get a copy of Pierre an der Walts African Dangerous Game Cartridges in North America?

SaeedI am sure all these books are interesting.
But, I suggest you get yourself an Amazon Kindle account.
Buy a Kindle, or just down load the Kindle app on your ipad.
You then have access to thousands of African hunting books from the Kindle store.
Some are free.

Baker458I just read 'Kambaku!' by Harry Manners. It was excellent. I have read many of the 'old time' Africa books, and enjoy most. But this was exceptionally well written. I'm going to re-read it after I finish what I'm on now. Got a lower price at Midway USA on this one. Harry was hunting ivory for income when Wally Johnson (The Last Ivory Hunter, Capstick) was. They were buddies.
One of my absolute favorites, I've read it half a dozen times, is 'The Hunting Imperative' by Richard Harland. More modern setting, well written and full of dangerous game adventure.
Enjoy!

CougarzAnother one for Kambaku, really good story.

Buzz CharltonIf you have not read it "MONTHS OF THE SON" is my all time favourite hunting book! All of Richard Harlands are excellent and I also very much enjoyed Kambaku.

I will 3rd this. And get Buzz’s elephant video so you can hear his voice, THEN read the book in his voice. That guy was as complicated as they come. A great book would have loved to heard his stories in person over tea....
As mentioned Kambaku is also a super book. Those will keep you busy.

I haven't read it, but I've listened to the audiobook probably 6 times since being introduced to it by my PH's last Sept. My first listen was driving through KNP on my last day in RSA after the hunting was through.

I am a big fan of his books. Mike, he just released two books recently. Although he has a ghost writer/assistant these days, it’s atill good. His book released last year just arrived, but being a good son, I’m letting my father read it first.

Asigai was the last one.

Indeed. Gives you a great rundown of the lineage of PHs from the very earliest days.
Have had the pleasure of communicating with Brian, very nice fellow.

Zephyrall the afore mentioned books are great all add another two...Cannot go wrong with the two books written by Richard Harlan
29 January 2018, 21:38
MartyAbove mentioned books all good.
I would add Fred Everett’s first book “Heat, Thirst and Ivory” to the list.
I would add that his second book, “Tuskers in the Dust” was disappointing.

tomahawkerI enjoyed both Everett books. Re reading JKH book, fantastic.

Heeler75Don't forget Selous. His book about 9 years in southern Africa is good.

Dutch44Another one for "Months of the Sun". Richard Harland next as he autographed my copy of his The Hunting Imperative" while Buzz and Stephanie hosted us all for a wonderful dinner and evening for great food, drink and conversation.

Yup. Didn’t see that one coming. Great book. Manners seemed like a genuinely good guy.

kevin hendersonNot African hunting, but I just finished re-reading Jim Corbet's 5 volume set on India and his hunts for man eaters there. The books are small so you can tuck them in a hip pocket and go. That guy was either bat shit crazy or really, really good.
