The Lion We Did Not Shoot

Gentlemen,

We were out cruising for game one afternoon, when the boys in the back of the truck started hammering on teh roof so hard we thought they had seen T.Rex!

They saw this lion poking his head out of the grass about 100 yards away.

Roy looked at him with his binoculars, and said disappointingly: "he is too young to shoot!"

We drove closer to him. He got up and walked towards us. The boys at the back of the truck were getting quite anxious, as they had a dead impala with them.

The lion stopped about 20 yards from us, and we took some pictures of him, as you can see above.

This was the only male lion we saw on this trip. We saw quite a few lionesses though.

Lions are so COOL! I think they are a lot of what creates the mystique of Africa. Spending the night in an African hunting camp and hearing them in this distance is something I dream about regularly! Great picture.

Lions ARE amazing. I remember watching Saeed's Zim 2000 video. When the sequence with the lions running around and snarling started, my heart started jack hammering!

Lions are just plain wonderful...
