Ian Smith was a great leader...a great man. Read the book—“The Great Betrayal” sometime.

Agree. I have read that book a couple of times.
Also try reading "Cry Zimbabwe" by Peter Stiff, as well.

Do you guys think for one minute that his rein of terror is over, just a different face in relm..The only thing that will change the state of the union in Zim is and all out civil war, and that's a big maybe, that also can just be a different face in the political world..His replacement has been well trained. Oh my, the liberal left in the US will think Im a pessimist. Oh yeah and the CIA will be confused for another 20 years..

Correct and keep in mind our government supported Aparti, and the CIA probably helped intstall Magabe, I say this because they are such screw ups and at the time we had Obama, go figure... rotflmo

I don't see Africa getting any better, the damage has been done, but I can always hope.

Smith was well within his goal of establishing a true coalition government that was inclusive of the blacks. He knew that exclusive white rule without including the black population was going to be a failure. Afterall, he had an excellent example of that sort of thinking just south of his border.

At the time, Rhodesia had the highest level of education, agricultural productivity, and medical care of any African nation. In short, the country worked and would have continued to work had not Wilson and the progressive socialist thinkers of the time destroyed what Smith had built (same type busy trying to destroy the US). But they believed they could throw Smith under the bus, steal the country and control the black socialists they put into power in order to do just exactly what China is doing today - exploit Africa for profit. Oooooops. (And BTW, it's not working out so well for China either)

TIA and it ain't for sissies.

How can we know that Mugabe is dead?

The corruption is the same, but the corrosion is somewhat reduced.

Credit to Seamus Miller on the concept.

We are witnessing a new political phenomenon: the "walking dead" country. Zimbabwe, Haiti, N Korea, Cuba, Somalia and a half dozen other African countries, Afghanistan, Venezuela come to mind. South Africa aspires to join the list. When the competent people flee (or are "cleansed"), then the remainder are trapped in a dictator-sheep relationship with no apparent way out.

My tracker told me when the white people ruled our country I had a house of stone, I had water to drink and beer for friends, today with the black man in charge, I live in a stick house with dirt floor, water 5 miles away and there is no beer at all..What more could he say, that says it all..

Atrocities? IN all cases both side blame, and both sides commit.

This is Africa, where only the strong survive, and that will never change, and perhaps it should remain???? Had the white African perservered, he would still own that right.Had the US gov. not stuck its ugly nose in Africa the white African "just might" have saved Africa..Had China's comunist done the same, it would still be as it was. Just some thought on the subject as Ive seen it all play out and was there in part, but not involved other than in conversation with those who lived through much of it...
