Gent's, Please go to the GUNSMITHING Forum and address my inquiry on RIM THICKNESS. Give your opinions and reasons. I am going crazy trying to decide on a caliber for a BIG BORE D/R, and if I should order from SEARCY before price jumps kick in FEB 1, or if I pick 470 go with a used gun maybe the MIKE SCHWANDT offering, a Belgian guild gun [www.doublegun.com then go to Mike Schwandt]. I might choose 500 NE 3" possibly. I am VERY negative, perhaps foolishly so, on these skimpy RIMS of the .470 NE and 500 NE as they are .035 or .040 thick. GAME OF CHOICE in order 1 - ELEPHANT, probably P.A.C. hunt, 2 - LEOPARD, (I already own a 5 shot .450 Dakota calibered bolt rifle by http://www.rifleactions.com WFF HEIN and a .375 H&H calibered Mod. 97 by Dakota Arms and on order due in Feb a Dakota Arms Traveler, Safari Grade in 330 Dakota caliber) 3 - CAPE BUFFALO BULL. Anyway, PLEASE RENDER YOUR EXPERTISE ON THE GUNSMITHING FORUM, I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!! Jack OH GOD! {Seriously, we need the help.}

God Grief, You are over analyzing by a degree of 10. Buy the caliber you like, they all work exactly the same. Buy the rifle you like, they all shoot. There is a reason anal is the first part of analyize. Good Hunting

The relatively thin rim of the .470 NE and .500 NE never breaks, it never bends it never splits. It is just not a problem. But finding ammo for some weirdo caliber, or worse yet a wildcat, is a huge problem. So just get a .470.
