Hey with all the hubub going on with bad hunts and bad rifles, I saw Ruger's Hunting Adventures show today that featured two JRTs "mixing it up" with a wounded gemsbok. after the host, gooned the shot with a 375. As some of you know/remember, I lost my JRT Maggie about six months ago and the family ( my wife two daughters and fat cat who is full of stiches from the JRT's savagery)overruled my son and I and are bringing home some kind of Australian Sheperd nonsense dog. I have half a mind to go and get another JRT anyway. Man, the courage of those two little dogs against that gemsbok was amazing. What do you guys think, should I go get one? jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

Jorge, I believe you would be happy with any dog that has been trained in the "Buddy the Wonder Dog" method of rescue search. Be careful with the JRT though. Instead of bringing back a blueblood debutant it might drag home a crocodille by its tail, and then you have a whole new set of problems in the backyard. Anyway, here is a picture of buddy in action: Jorge, Get the JRT. I will lend you "Magda, Queen Bitch of the World, German Shorthair Pointer Slayer of Cats". She will chomp that pesky cat of yours in about two nanoseconds. No cat, no problem, get any dog you desire. Actually, Digital Dan live a lot closer. He is a qualified 10th degree master in the art of cat annihilation. Give him a PM. lawndart

Now I can finally see Buddy in action, in glorious full color detail. I recently lost Frankie, a black and tan possum huntin' dog/dash hound, who brightened life for 11 years, passing away in his sleep without a whimper. He was just moving a little slower than he did in his youth, but otherwise trouble free until the end. My next dachsund will be named "Buddy." I would like lawndart to train him.

The only cruel thing that God has done is make it so we out live our dogs. When I croak, Magda's remains will be interred with mine in the military cemetery at the Little Bighorn battle site. Get a JRT, and name him "Little Death Wind" Jorge. He can kill the cat and the new dog. I'll train him to find rich coochie for you. lawndart

jorge: As you well know, they are a high maintenance dog. Meaning they take a lot of your time if you want to raise them right. If you have the time, get one. They make fair bird dogs also.

jorge, I have a ten-year-old white lab who's getting slower. I really don't know how I'll take it when she goes. I've been wanting a JRT ever since I first went to RSA where they are common house dogs. At one farm there was a JRT and a huge neopolitan mastiff. The contrast in size between these dogs was amazing! But you guessed it, the JRT ruled the roost. If I ever get to the point where I can retire I will get one, but it'd be a poor move while I'm still living in town and working 10 hours a day. TJ, that's a truly classic JRT pic, but I have to applaud Buddy's choice more! Don_G ...from Texas, by way of Mason, Ohio and Aurora, Colorado!

I have thre German Shothairs and all but one, he's a little slow upstairs, love sun dried cat. They first dispatch their meal then let it become kitty raison before snacking on it. I have talked to several owners and while the drying process seems to be unique to my animals the urge to hunt cats seems to be part of the breed. I believe my next dog will be a JRT, does anyone know if they will assist my GSPs in cat control?

I have a 18 month old Jack Russel. He goes 100mph at all times but he is a great dog. Besides thinking that he is actually human he thinks he is 10 feet tall and bullet proof. That little dog would tear into a dog 10x his sie and never blink. TJ: that is a great picture and typical of the breed. The rest of the observations are all entirely indicative of what my dog used to be like. I miss her, but I'm losing the battle boys, that damned Aussie Sheperd will be here next week ( no offense to you Aussie boys!) jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

I was given what I was told was an Aussie Shepherd when my daughters were 2-6 yrs old. I think it was actually a heeler, or a heeler cross. Even when a very young puppy I could not break her of "herding" the kids and strangers by nipping at their heels. After she was 6 months old I was literally the only person safe from those nips. I gave her to an uncle that farmed cattle near Avery, Texas. She was a natural herder and had no trouble handling his small herd of fractious Brahma crosses. I hope yours makes a better pet! Yes, very much. My GSP is OK with cats (training) but loves to run over them. When no humans are watching he sometimes lets them finish off his meal, if he has had enough. Also have caught him with one, or even two in his bed with him. JRT's are also great little dogs and fighters. I like them a lot.

What does it look like? If longish coated might be a border-collie cross with kelpie (sheep dog breed). Also can have short hair. Or a blue or red heeler (cattle dog breed).

It looked like a leggy, longer-coated blue heeler. But shorter-legged and longer-coated than most Texas-bred border collies. A one-man dog. Took my uncle months to get reasonable control of her. Don_G ...from Texas, by way of Mason, Ohio and Aurora, Colorado!
