A hunter can no longer dart a Rhino with a tranquilizer in South Africa.

As I understand it, you can dart them with a vitamin and the vet with you can then dart with the tranq -- but SCI won't let you put it in the record book that way.

That said, I think that darting Rhino might just be the most exciting hunt in Africa -- particularly if it's a Black Rhino. You have to get within about 20-25 yards and then really piss the guy off by sticking a big dart in him. It takes 8-10 minutes for the tranquilizer to take effect -- so very often the hutner has to dodge the charges while the drug slowly goes to work.

I found it to be a lot more exciting and dangerous than shooting Rhino and I'll be doing it again to be sure, record books notwithstanding.

When you get bored with life, start hunting dangerous game with a handgun.

OHH, I think you have it wrong but we probably need an agent or someone from SA to say for sure. To my knowledge it is not illegal but many of the vets now decline to be involved due to the Groenwald scam. There are still vets that will participate in a darting however. Can someone say for sure what is the law and what is the practice now?

Well that would suck as I plan to finish my 7DG by darting a Rhino in 2013!
Hell SCI may support shooting only so their rich members are the only ones who can enter books....BTW, I belong to SCI but am not a "rich" member.
