Good day, this would be my first time posting on this website, so nice to meet you all. I am going to buy one of these videos by Mark Sullivan as a gift for a friend. My question is, which do you think is best for its money? Most are $50, but one is an hour, another is over 100 minutes. So, in all of your opinions, which is the Grand Slam video? I'm looking for lots of excitment and adrenaline rush(ofcourse). Keep in mind also that cape buffalo is my friends favorite game animal. Thank you for any replies.

Welcome to the forum - I'm sure you'll enjoy it - however I should tell you, you've rather opened a can of worms. Wink MS isn't generally very popular here - A better alternative to any of his video's might be the Boddington one.

Martin can I have some popcorn for my beer ?

beer

GAHogMan

I would go for the "Death on the run" or
"Death at my feet" "Shot to death" is also very "intertaining"

Cheers,

André

Since you're new here, go to the top of this page. Look for the third button from the left, "Find". Click that, it'll open a window, go to "Advanced Search" and click "Go." Type in Mark Sullivan and you'll find this has been tossed around a bit over time.

If I were to choose only one I would say "Death at my feet" however "Shot to death" is good too. All other things not counting, my non-hunting friends find these videos very entertaining.

If I remember correctly, Black Death and Sudden Death were my favorites. Were I planning on selecting just one, it'd probably be Black Death.

Hey, GaHogMan, welcome to AR! I think you will enjoy this website, and especially, the African Hunting, and the BIG BORE forums. Big Grin

wave Let me give you a little advice, however, there are two things here that will ge a lot of negative reaction, every time! They are #1 MARK SULLIVAN, and #2 45-70 ON African dangerous game! If you like both enough to not care about the abuse they both can bring you, then both will certainly get you known here quickly! MARK SULLIVAN is not popular on any forum here, but the 45-70 is fine on the big game forum, which basicly is about North American game!

Come on in, the water's fine! beer

Aw, come on, Mac. If you go back to old posts, only a couple of handfuls really show their displeasure with the MS tapes. I'm sure there're a whole lot more who really like the tapes and won't say a thing on the subject. I've already said what needed to be said now and in the past, so I'll just set this one out. Like Jeffery says, "Pass the popcorn."

I'm sure there are some cross dressers who don't say anything on that subject either! jump

I'll have some of that popcorn as well, because you know as well as I do, this will draw a media event! clap

GaHogMan, the advice still stands! You are welcome here, however, MS and all! beer

OK, I'll jump in...I rather like Mark Sullivan's videos from an entertainment standpoint. My own ideas of hunting safely apparently differ from his, but the videos are good. I'd hunt with Mr Sullivan but we wouldn't be provoking any buffalo charges intentionally. There's probably more than just me lurking around who feel the same way! sofa

Good hunting,

Andy

"Africa's Black Death" was the original one and the one I would go for.

I don't know any of his recent ones.

The only one I've seen has been "Death At My Feet". Watching it convinced me of 3 things:
1- Mark Sullivan has testicles the size of bowling balls.
2- His style of hunting is not my style.
3- When the shit hits the fan I want MS standing next to me.

I love "Boddington On Buffalo", also. But, it's apples and oranges. Boddington is much more of an "informative" video - here are all the things to consider when going hunting for Buff - compared to MS's "let's see how close we can get to a wounded Buff".
Make up your own mind. thumb

Thank you all for your prompt and honest opinions. There is something not liked by every group of people, and you all seem like the type to not just anonomously(spelling?) pick on someone. So what's the grudge? Keep in mind that I know NOTHING about Mark Sullivan. I just saw a clip off of one of his videos at a safari convention. Again, thanks for the responses.

You will definitly enjoy the Sullivan Tapes. My favorite is Black Death.
In watching and listening to his comments and actions you will draw your own conclusions about his moral and ethical attitudes. The first few times through you will find absolute excitement. Try to simply enjoy the action. After awhile you will search for why others find fault with his style of hunting and then you may begin to analyze if it fits with your own moral views and ethics of hunting.

OK, here goes. First of all, MS does a very good job of getting his guys onto great trophies, but, unless the first shot kills, he'll take his time to trail it up. This is to get into the animal's space and force it to charge so's he can get off a few rounds himself. Instead of dispatching a wounded animal straightaway, he allows "The animal to decided for himself the method of death." Seeing the trailer is only a teaser, just go out and get the collection and see for yourself.

Forget MS and go get "Death by Double Rifle" or "With Deadly Intent."

Two really good videos...

To really splurge, get a copy of NE450No2's safari from last year...

577, where can I get a copy of Tony's (NE450No2) film from last year? He lives near me, (about 45 miles away) and is a member of our DRSS (DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTER'S SOCIETY), but I didn't know his film was available for sale!

Mac:

He doesn't have it for sale...but we all told him at the DRSS hunt that he should sell it as it is one of the finest hunting video we've ever seen.

Sorry if my post mislead you. That was not my intention.

I watched Death by Double rifles recently. Other than the tremendous buffalos (and kudu)shown, I thought that the intention was to blast away with their doubles as often as possible without enough consideration for shot placement. It's like they had to shoot as often as possible to justify the title of the film. JMO!
