Hey guys, I'm off to Africa next year for some plains game action, but the ultimate aim is a second trip for a Buff. I have a Sauer202 in 308Win which I'm using on all the antelope, and the biggest caliber I can get for my action is 9.3X62 (I think.... correct me if I'm wrong) Has anyone ever take a buff with this round? and is it sufficiet? I have been told that some thinkik it is a little slow for the job... Also what round would you use? and any thought on the caliber overall. The alternative is a new .375H&H whichI'm trying to avoid getting for the sake of one trip. Thoughts would be appreciated. Regards, FB

It'll work fine, but you need to have a conversation with your PH about it. Any of the heavy, tough premium bullets (270 grains and up for monolithics, 286 grains and up for lead cores) at normal 9.3x62 velocities (2350 fps) will do the job with proper shot placement.

Fallow, Here's a good article from African Hunter magazine on the 9.3x62 that you may find informative and useful: The 9.3 x 62 Mauser http://www.african-hunter.com/the_9_3_x_62_mauser.htm -Bob F.

I have shot Buffalo with the 9.3x62 in my 26" barrel max loaded 9.3x62...I like the 320 gr. Woodleigh softs and solids at about 2400 FPS that I get with that long barrel and big doses of RL-15 and H414... I have made rifles for a couple of female clients that have shot Buffalo with them..Normally the bulls run about 50 yards and die...They used Woodleigh 286 gr. bullets and in one case the flat nose solids from Northfork..worked well according to all reports... Still, the .375 is probably a better caliber and the .416 or 404 is much better... I personally wouldn't hesitate a minute to shoot another Buffalo or two with my 9.3x62...anymore than I would hesitate to shoot another deer with my 30-30...
