Ok you guys from the Southwest, I need to decide on a Taxidermy studio. I looked at several at the Dallas show and to say the least, I am confused.

Will hunt plains game and Buff

What say ye?

Seems like taxidermists with African experience around Oklahoma are kinda sparce.

I'm going to give B&B Taxidermy out of Houston a try with our Namibian stuff. They come highly recommended.

Good luck.

I'm looking around for one in this general area myself. Probably will just have mounts done in Namibia.

Contact Jerry Huffaker, he is an AR poster. He has hunted Africa. I have seen several African animals he has done. He will be doing mine. He has done a black bear rug for me and he has 2 more black bear rugs of mine in his freezer now.

Bob Wilkins of Wildlife Artistry in Cameron Tx. is very good, he is handling all of my mounts and leather edged zebra rug etc. from my safari to Zim in 04. He can be reached at 1-254-697-8057. www.wildlifeartistry-texas.com I would also suggest you use a broker such as Coppersmith.

bullsprig,

Geographic location might not be your best criterion for choosing a taxidermist. Of course it would be nice to be able to drive to the studio and pick up your trophies but using an experienced African specialist is more important. If the guy has never seen a kudu he might not be your best choice. My choices would be Atcheson Taxidermy in Butte, MT and Jerry Huffaker in Abilene, TX. I have a house full of mounts they did and have nothing but good to say about either outfit.

Regards,

Mark

Gerald Hillman, Hillman's Taxidermy in Yukon, OK (405) 354-6151 has been doing African game for 40 years. He has done more African than most taxi's see in a lifetime. He is honest, fair priced, slow and good. If you ever have a problem he will make it good.

I was at Doc Lockards home Friday evening who has over 160 species from around the world, whose taxi bill probly exceeds $ 1M, and Gerald has done more than half of his work.

If you want exotic artistic scenes then Gerald may not be your man. But he does some very creative work.

No man leaves his shop with a problem unresolved, ever. He is a man of his word.

If you work with him before you leave, he will help you figure out how the whole process will work so that when it happens there are no surprises.

Prayer, planning, preperation, perseverence, proper procedure, and positive attitude, positively prevents poor performance.

Mighty Joe,

Thanks for the referral. That is the first Okie referral I have had. I would love to find someone close to home. I am presently leaning toward Jerry Huffaker in Abilene.

Dont overlook Animal Artistry in Little Elm TX. Larry Griffin has many customers from the Dallas Sfari Club. He specializes in African cridders.
If you want to try a Part Timer, check me out. I am in Dallas. Check out my web page, sherpytaxidermy.com.
I can e-mail you pics of some African mounts if you wish and provide you a few references.
By the way, if I did not do my own, I would use Larry!

Schott's Taxidermy in San Antonio, Tx did an excellent job from my Zimbabwe hunt, he know how to mount African game and I've got the Namibian trophies going to him also.
