Hi Guys:

Just got back yesterday, that long flight is a killer. One word for Zim in Bulawayo in June... It was fricken COLD... It was in the low 30's at night, no heat either, hell no windows in our first camp a stone cottage. This camp was Dorshano.

Second camp was Dingwall, the last eight days of a 12 day Leopard hunt. I will give a full report when I upload some pictures, right now my ass is draging.

Tale of the tape. Chased two big male Leopards around in circles for days. I hung six baits, did the guts drag thingie. Even bought two live goats for live bait, alas to no avail. I think there was to much game available for the cats. Saw many Sable and Impala skulls laying all over the place.

But... But... no kitty so I just kept on shooting plains game. 1. 44.5 in Sable 2. 17 in Blue Wildebest 3. I shot THE Black Bull Giraffe of Dingwall, even got this epic on video, took 8 shots from a 300 RUM.. 4. 11 in. Warthog 5. 22 in. Impala 6. 25 in. Waterbuck... ready for this... he is BLACK..?? 7. 50 in Kudu... 8. 3.5 in Steinbuck...
9. 17 in. Tsessebe ... 10. Second Kudu. couldn't resist 48.5 inch.

I neck shot the Giraffe at 100 yards, went down like a ton of bricks with one shot. Every time I put a finisher shot in his chest he got all the way up and ran. These animals definitely deserve a 375 H&H or better to keep them down.

In my opinion, the political climate is iffy. I will tell you about the war vets in my hunt report.

I will do a full Hunt Report in the Hunt Report forum later.

Regards... Jim P.

Welcome home, Jim!

I'm sorry to hear that Old Spots wouldn't take the bait, but it sure sounds like you had a great time anyway. The forty four and a half inch sable (!) is what caught my eye especially.

Get some shut-eye and tell us all about it when you catch up with yourself.

Other than the leopard, you had a good hunt. There will be more leopards in the future.

On our last trip to Zimbabwe my hunting partner had the same luck with old spots. Seems there were a few ladies in the area "in the mood" and patterning was out of the question. Hell they were putting out baits just about anywhere they saw a leopard track towards the end. I think I was shooting more baits than my partner and it was his leopard! Made for lots of warthog practice even though they weren't trophies.
