Hey Nick, AWESOME video. I loved it. It was by far, one of the BEST African videos I have ever seen. Lot;'s of suspense, and not a lot of killing if you know what I mean. My wife even sat through it which is really RARE! Please refresh our (my) memories. how did you go about having it done? Was it a service the outfitter provided? Sorry if this was already discussed... Who does it go to next? Thanks for sharing.

[QUOTE]Originally posted by N'gagi: [QB]Hey Nick, AWESOME video. I loved it. It was by far, one of the BEST African videos I have ever seen. Having just had the pleasure of 'joining' Nick on his double Buff hunt in Dande North, I cannot but agree with N'gagi more. I have a collection of about 60 videos on hunting DG in Africa, and rate this one as the best of the lot, purely because one is taken on the hunt , around the concession, over several days, before a shot is fired. The build up is very good indeed. It was so refreshingly different to the usual walk up and kill scenes one has had to get used to. (Makes the uninitiated think Buffalo hunting is like shooting cows in the back yard!). The two trophy bulls are excellent, and are harvested with the minimum of fuss and suffering. Great stuff Nick, and thanks for sharing it. Look forward to the next one. DJ.

DJ, Your gracious words are most appreciated and I thank you for them. I admit to having had the feeling, initially, that I had "missed" the opportunity of a lifetime, in losing that .505 frontal footage but the reviews have been so very special, that I'm now thinking that perhaps the hunt took on real meaning because of it .... the video, perhaps better than I had thought. I'm glad it got over the puddle safely. I'll send email later on. Thanks Again .. Nick [ 09-03-2003, 01:55: Message edited by: Nickudu ]

Peter, As the first bull turned, I was back on him, despite the brush, which video doesn't negotiate as well as the eye. My "PH" said "Hold it ... he's hit good .. he's gonna go down", so I held fire. That 2nd bull was lost in the shuffle at the shot but we soon heard it bellow. Follow-up shots may be anything from easier than the first to wishful blasting. All the more reason to slam them good and proper, right off.

Nickudu, I watched your movie today and I would love to one day do what you have done. It was extremely well done and I really enjoyed it. Your .505 is also awesome. The memories you have of your trip will be some of your greatest ever. Nickudu you may finish up costing me a lot of money because I would seriously like to save my pennies and do what you have done some day Congratulations on your fine trophies. How did you have them mounted ??

Thank you PC, for your fine words. If Swainsons Safaris are true to their word, "Redemption" & "Deception" will be given a place of honor at Meruru Camp in Dande.

Nickudu's video - Aussie list. Who is next on the Aussie list. Bakes mentioned he had the video and was sending it out a month or more ago. I'm awaiting it (im)patiently having heard all these fine comments. Big Nick slays the dreaded black beast.

That Bakes is probably out fishing or pig hunting again! If he doesn't shape up soon, he may lose his video distributorship! Mark my words, this is no hollow threat!

Nickudu would you reccomend Swainsons as the place for your first Safari ?? Will you use them again or try another spot in Africa ??

PC, I have hunted there before and probably will again. It's the remoteness of the area I value. The hunting is much as it was, a hundred years ago.

I've just received and watched "THE VIDEO", and although I have seen everything I can get my hands on, this video stands out uniquiley as being so very well produced, photographed and choreographed. I could not understand how in the world you refused the huge bull from the second herd until seeing "White Patch"! Very impressive. I did not understand the Honey Gatherer. Was he in fact poaching? Do the trackers have the authority to exact a fine for someone on the concession? It was very interesting. I was very impressed that you took time to enjoy the surroundings and views of Africa. Very poingnient and certainly refreshing when compared to the average video seen. Thank you for the opportunity. I will be forwarding soon. I have to watch it again of course. Oh, and by the way. I would like to place my order now for at lease 50 lbs. of the "native" Viagra you and the "trackers" were eating. Frank [ 06-20-2003, 05:10: Message edited by: Frank Martinez ]

Glad you enjoyed it, Frank. HoneyHunter - There is supposed to be no activity of this sort within the concession. This kid's village was 30 miles distant. He was responsible for many of the local brushfires, like you saw in the video, via the indescriminate use of fire in plying his trade (smoking out the bees). The extremely tall chap in the video is Paul, a Game Scout, who has the authority to make such calls. I wasn't really upset about the incident, my first thought being the poor kid had more "right" being there than I. As for the "Viagra Bush", it must be quite effective, as, for the ensuing 3 days, I was compelled to hunt with the cook and the skinners!!

I just had my "go around" with Nick's video. I could echo all of the previous comments but I'll just say I enjoyed it very much and it certainly instills the flavor of a buffalo hunt!! On the down side.. It brought on a sudden and POWERFUL bout of "Safari Fever." The video made me re-live my buffalo hunt and long for a return trip... I've had a very hard time concentrating on work (or life in general) every since I watched it. My head is filled with the visions, sounds, and tastes of Africa! So... If you haven't gotten on the list, I encourage you to do so..... BUT... let the viewer beware.. you have been warned about the strong strain of Safari Fever virus it carries around with it.

Nickudu, Are you saying someone 'ripped all of us' off by stealing your video!!! the webmaster should have an address and maybe someone lives close to the culprit.... I am not ashamed to put my address down for a copy of the video.... Mike Podwika Mayor 134 Susquehanna Ave Wyoming, Pa 18644 and I am in the phone book!!! Nick- I'm sorry someone has soured you slightly on your generous offer to share your video with us. I had previously requested to be put on the list but as my mail is normally delivered to a PO box, that's the address I included. I'll PM a physical address also (though the UPS drivers often can't find the place!) Thanks again for your generosity. Jay Kolbe

Snowcat - I truly do not recall your request. Please send email with address etc., I'll straighten it out. Retreever - I don't know what to think at this point. A month is a long time to have it, with fellow members waiting, especially, when one does not respond to email. If there was a problem of some kind, all he has to do is pick up the phone. I had the privelege of seeing Nick's video a long time ago..Like many Canadans, we only have a PO box, so we are not all THAT bad! I really liked that we went through several days without a kill shot..gives you a good idea about hunting! Nick mentioned to me that his trophy stick was not entered into B&C. Nick's video is excellent. I really enjopyed it. I just wish that I had the opportunity to copy it while I had it... Nick, you are welcome in BC for fishng or hunting with me anytime!

Thanks Clarke, Look for me opening day for big whitetails. I'll be bringing along the Seaford Chapter of the "Knights of Columbus". Hunters, all and they don't eat so much these days.

quote:No whitetails in my neck of the woods..We hunt muleys. Pretty big bodied guys, and the terrain they are in is particularly wonderful. Nothing like a good spot and stalk muley hunt in the high alpine, as far as I am concerned. Every now and then we even catch one! I always have a freezer full of game of some sort, so they can eat as much as they like!
