I hunted with Shangaan Hunters in Zim's lowveld in '02 and took a 44" Cape buff with them. I saw three larger bulls, but we were unable to maneuver to a shot with those animals. I estimated them to be 45" to 48" spread; the good news is they have not been shot.

If you are interested I can arrange a hunt with them.

The Selous is a big place and it has a hell of a lot of 40 inch and bigger bulls, if you can hold back on a big bossed 38 incher...Most people on a 7 day hunt will not do that..

Also because you have hunted one concession in the Selous makes one not an expert..The Selous has good concessions and not so good concession, a lot depends on how hard the concession gets hit year after year...

I shot the biggest bull of my life last year in the Selous last year (see my web page) after Saeed and usens had been tuning it up like crazy for 25 days or so, PA Hunter who posts here shot a monster bull of 46 inches in the Selous year before last,. Several years ago a client shot a 53 inch bull in the Selous, Big Buffalo are where you find them, they are like gold, they got big being smart....I chased a 48 inch bull, maybe a 49 for a week in the Selous a couple of years ago, but he showed me his stuff and I never got it done.

Tanzania has the biggest bulls in the world, check the record book... We hunt the Mayowashi and it has some very big bulls and in good numbers, as does our Masai land concession, but they are fewer there, but they have some awesome bulls that come out of that park..Mostly we hunt the Selous as the numbers are higher and we seem to be shooting better bulls every year in there...

It's like Balla-Balla said, most everybodys has some good bulls, its all about hunting...Get a good outfitter and tell him what you want, and do what he sez!

You would be surprised at how many hunters are not into the biggest trophy and are perfectly satisfied with an average typical 38" bull...The don't carry a tape, they hunt for the sport of hunting and for the experience...but this brings the numbers down for every Safari company..Same with any kind of hunting from rock chucks to mule deer...

I wish I could recommend an outfitter. I'm trying to decide what to do for a 2006 buffalo hunt myself, so I'm very interested in the posts on this topic!

Hey, me too!

Stoker, you would do well to provide some details to your question (ie. what country, etc). One line questions seldom get the answers your looking for. I also suggest you take a look at the African Hunt Report forum...you may find some of the info you are looking for there.

Nevertheless, I am surprised by the responses on this thread. I have never seen so many decent answers for a question that wasn't asked!! The guy is looking for recommendations on outfitters, not advice about which country to hunt, what time of the year, and what gun to pack.

FWIW, as indicated above, I too am interested in hearing current outfitter recommendations if anyone wants to share some.

Cheers,
Canuck

In ZIM for buffalo I would consider

Roger Whittall Safaris http://www.rwsafaris.com/
Buzz Charlton Safaris www.buzzcharltonsafaris.com
Big 5 Safaris
Swainsons Safaris
HHK

There are plenty of other good operations in ZIM as well.

Stoker and all looking for current info.

I just returned from hunting Chewore South and the Mokore area of the Save with Barrie Duckworth's Mokore Safaris see my recent post. The Chewore area is a very good buffalo area with some very good bulls. But when you are hunting you never know what opportunities you may or may not have, I was certainly satisfied with my old dugga boy. I would highly recommend Mokore Safaris. Barrie can be reached by e-mail at mokore@mweb.co.zw My PH, Pete Fick was very experienced and an excellent hunter and the whole Mokore staff, trackers, skinners, cooks etc. did a great job. I know many people look for bargains, but when it comes to dangerous game you don't want a "bargain" PH. The prices in Zim, from what I found have not gone up but they are not cheap. The trophy fees on many of the species are less expensive than RSA from what I compared. IMHO you usually get what you pay for.

Doug Kok Safaris. I have hunted with Doug and Alistair many times over the past eight years and recommend them without reservation. Also they are fun guys to hunt and fish with.
