Zambia: Beast Kills Farmer

AN 84-year-old farmer of Choma District in Southern Province has been viciously attacked and killed by an animal known as heart beast.

Peter Green, who was on foot patrol of his game ranch, was killed together with his dog.

Mr Green of Steal Medle Farm, situated about 12 kilometres from Choma town, was discovered dead by his son, Danny, on Monday around 17:45 hours.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Charity Katanga yesterday confirmed the death of the farmer who lived at the farm since the 1990s.

Ms Katanga said Mr Green sustained multiple injuries on his stomach, chest, and bruises on the left leg and hand.

"He was patrolling his farm on foot when the suspected wild beast attacked him. His dog was also killed," he said.

Ms Katanga said the body of the deceased was taken to Choma Hospital mortuary and that police had since instituted investigations.

Zambia Wildlife Authority also confirmed the incident but public relations and communications officer Mwila Muliyunda said the Authority had not received a report on the matter.
