Can anyone tell me about elephant hunting in Gokwe North and South?

How about hunting with Abie Steyn?

I can tell you that these concessions are about to change hands due to some irregularities on the part of the current concession holder. PM me

Russ:

You made a similar allegation against Tshabezi Safaris earlier this year without proof or evidence. When questioned by Wendell Reich who books for them and myself, IIRC, to provide proof you did not reply.

Now you make the same allegations and then want to go to offline and PM.

If you have tangible evidence that they are going to lose it, please provide the forum with it. You made very serious allegations that may or may not be true.

Since you made the comments on an open forum, it is only right to substantiate them, and no I am not a lawyer. I am, however, looking into Tshabezi for an elephant hunt in 2009 so I DO have a vested interest in your comments.

Looking forward to your public reply.

Regards,

RCG

RCG,

I will say this:

1. I never went back and read the responses to my prior posting - so my lack of a reply at that time was purely due to oversight. I visit this forum sporadically and I don't read every posting or reply made to my postings.

2. I have of course now read the responses to the prior posting and they seem more like threats to me than good faith requests for more information.

3. My current response was to SBT's posting and that exchange is now complete and private.

4. You have now inserted yourself into SBT's posting. In view of the threatening tone of Mr. Reich's prior posting, as well as the unfriendly tone of both of your replies, I decline to say anything further publicly or privately regarding this matter, other than the fact that I have nothing against the current operator, don't know him from Adam, nor do I know the area first hand. Thus I don't have the inclination or energy to mount a prosecution of the man on this forum complete with 'evidence' and 'proof'.

Sorry, buddy, you should have PM'd me and you may have gotten somewhere.

This has more of a ring of pimping your own hunts rather than a concern for the future of Gokwe.

Russ it seems to me that public allegations should be publicly substantiated. If not it appears Will is right.

Frankly it is painful to see this discussion. The Rodgers Family are some of the most honest hard working decent people I have ever known. Even as they have had the government steal their land and threaten their lives they have continued to take care of the people around them. I have watched them use their own money supplies and time when all these things were in sort supply to try to help the local people. As this is going on they are trying to get medications into the country to treat their staff that are HIV positive. In short they are like so many other wonderful people in Zimbabwe trying to do the best that they can as the country falls apart under a corrupt Stalinist type government.

As for IRREGULARITIES Every thing in Zimbabwe is irregular now. Corruption is the norm . It is with great sadness that we watch as excuses are made while deals are being made in an attempt to push the last remaining long term residents out that have held the country together for so long.

Oh Well. It's Africa Baby.

There is a great book out about the area and Dudley Roger's operation called The Last Safari by Bruce VanBushkirk. Very interesting perspective of a client who became an apprentice PH for a year.

Russ:

You can't have it both ways. First you make a public allegation on this forum, actually twice since you made a similar one earlier this year, then you want to take the discussion off line.

Then you say I should have PM'd you? Why didn't you PM SBT BEFORE you posted your comments? That way you could have kept it offline as you now want. That is what PM's are for.

However, you chose to make public comments and now won't substantiate them publicly.

Bottom line is that you made serious allegations, admitted that you don't know the operator or area personally, and now want to end discussions.

As far as "Inserting" myself into SBT's thread (your words), my comments pertain directly with this thread's topic as I am looking into a hunt with this operator in this area for 2009.

Sorry if this seems confrontational to you Russ.

Finally, you say you you visit this site sporadically and don't always read follow up posts to your posts. I find this ironic as you seem to have time to post advertisements for your hunts, rifles and gun cases, that are for sale.

No need to PM me. You can reply here.

Regards,

RCG

I have so much trust in Dudleys character, I booked for Buff in 09 after Russ' first post.
If Dudley loses his area it won't be because he is dishonest, but because someone covets his area and does a dastardy deed.

Russ,

Once again, I will politely ask you, If you have any evidence to support your claim, please post it here for all the good people of AR to read. Any evidence whatsoever.

If you do not have good evidence, then please do not spread unsubstantiated rumors.

I await for your reply.

To set the record straight, here are my two replies to Russ. I can't see how this is all that threatening.

There is no issue to be concerned about with Gokwe.

Russ, you are welcome to present your "reasons" if you think have have a valid one. Or you are welcome to apologize.

You should be careful with what you say. An unsubstantiated rumor like this posted on a public forum, by another agent, no less, is not only in poor taste, it is reckless and inconsiderate.

Can't see how this is all that threatenming.

Seems like we have a pattern developing here and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

I recall something not long ago where Russ privately asked me to remove comments as they were supposedly damaging to something he was working on. Apparently, that door doesn't swing both ways for Russ? Roll Eyes

I just sat down and spoke to Mr. Rodgers in February at the Harrisburg outdoor show about a 2010 Buffalo hunt and he assured me there were no problems with his concessions. I've never hunted with him, but his demeanor and reputation were completely professional. Sounds like someone's got a wire crossed.

I hunted Elephant, Buffalo and Leopard in Gokwe North in June 2006. I killed a good buffalo and leopard, but no elephant bull. However, that wasn't because we didn't see elephant. I was just trying to shoot one in the 50# range. (els had me excited for big ivory). We did end up killing a cow that was looking to make jam out of us.

One day we had 19 bulls in one group, but it was the fourth day of the 15 day hunt and the biggest bull was about 45#. I made a decision to hold out. We were in buffalo every day, and there were leopard around as well.

I understand that the elephant in Gokwe are generally larger than the ones in the Omay whichi is right next door, but I don't have any first hand knowledge on that.

I, too, can vouch for the Rodgers. I really enjoyed them. I hunted with Kirk Mason, who is the consummate professional and gentleman.

I was in Gokwe North. We toyed with looking in Gokwe south for elephant, but never made it down there. I think the elephants there are shot at night as they come out of the park.

I hunted out of the river camp on the Ume river, and it was absolutely incredible. There was also a fair amount of plains game.

Here's the cow in the jess.
