In order of preference, which animals make the best lion baits and why? If it is area dependant, how about the North Luangwa in September?

Send me your list, Scott...I'll be happy to whack it...on your nickle, of course! Big Grin

Russell,

I knew I could count on you! Actually, you could do me a favor and not kill your buffalo until the last day.

I am actaully a little concerned about having to settle for lesser trophies just to put some bait up - hence this question.

Mike,

Yes, we are entering the count down phase. Less than 90 days now.

Scott,

You'll get a hippo the first morning so instant 4 huge baits. There will be many big bulls to choose from. Unless the bull is a freak you can only tell if its tusks make a big bump in the bulls upper lips anyway. It's pretty hard to tell a big hippo from a really big hippo. The 3 I shot in the Luangwa were 24"-26" and I think they fall somewhere in the middle of the book. If you guys can take another hippo you will probably be all set anyway.

Maybe bwanarm will have a monster lion feeding as you get there. It could happen.

Mark

you'll probably take both hippo and buff in that area. by sept. the waterholes are pretty well dried up and the game will congregate along the river. The hippo is the prime bait, both because of the odor and the size. I had a pride of 19 (all females) clean up a quarter in 1 night. The hippo is a kinda neat trophy, even though you might not consider it so at the time. I ended up with a 30" one, shot out of huge pod. The north luangwa is a beautiful area with a miramid of bird life and great game. Problem is lots and lots of flies
