This has been in the works for quite a while, a video explanation is available on the DSC website. Please direct any questions to Corey Mason, ED. "Dear DSC Members, We wanted to inform DSC members of a lawsuit recently filed against the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by DSC, its members, outstanding import applicants, and conservation partners. An illegal “hold” has been placed on processing all elephant import permit applications since November 2017. The “hold” has had catastrophic consequences, harming the very species it intends to protect, the relevant national management authorities, and millions of community members living amongst and formerly benefitting from elephants and their management. Furthermore, those that live with and manage these species have not been consulted about the impact of the “hold.” Lastly, this illegal “hold” is jeopardizing conservation efforts throughout recognized elephant ranges across Africa. We look forward to this action being corrected and applications being reviewed based on their merits." Thanks Karl. I initiated the paperwork to be a part of that action but got sidetracked. I'll try to finish it up and get it submitted here in the next day or two. | |||
